003 - Hope! [Action]

[Hope is inbetween his morning and afternoon classes. He's got his books in his bag, with a crisp new pad of paper with incredibly neat handwriting just visible where the cover has not fallen over the lined paper in a straight line. Hope is looking up at the sky with his eyes closed

[Oh hey, it's that kid Maria has a ton of classes with. She shrugs the books she's carrying to one arm so she can offer a smile and a wave as she joins him in the hall to the cafeteria.]

[She's only carrying those books because her backpack is full of more books. Which is kind of alarming considering she has three physical classes on MWF...]

[Hope smiles at the girl. He had noticed her in his classes, but hadn't quite gotten to the name stage yet.]

Hey.

[He offers a wave back looking at all of her books and shaking his head very slightly. This girl was trying to steal the library or something.]

How're you?

Impatient.

[She says that like it's the worst thing in the world, with a scowl.]

Weapons training is driving me nuts! And I just came from PMGF and I just. Can't. Wait to actually get to the Junctioning parts.

[Hope can't help but feel the TINIEST bit smug that he has weapons experience and magic experience in spades.]

Hey, they explained the whole patience thing. I mean... it sucks I know. Especially when you can already do most of the magic they're talking about. But hey. It's interesting to learn about the way you guys do it. Weapons training... well. I guess it's nice to have formal training for me.

[Hope looks at her with a soft smile.]

[He can do magic? That earns him a startled sidelong glance.]

[Real magic? Not paramagic? But he was -- he was a he! Wasn't he?]

[Then she shakes her head a little. If offworlders were bad people Garden wouldn't have accepted them. She just has to remind herself sometimes.]

See, I'm the other way, I have basic weapon training! I know what I'm going to study! But Junctioning, and GFs, and even paramagic, that's all -- SeeD stuff! Learning that is what I need to be a SeeD.

Well, that's what we're here to do that right? And if you have the training already you'll ace the class.

[Hope smiles at her encouragingly.]

Besides, you never know what you'll learn right? Are you getting lunch?

Oh, I know, I just want to get WTR out of the way so I can get into the specialty courses and start learning what I really want to!

[Enthusiasm, she has in spaces. Maybe too much so.]

Yeah, I'm starving. I feel like I've been rolling around for a month now.

[Hope looks at the collection of books.]

Yeah... Um. I'm glad my classes don't require me to carry around that much material.

Oh, a lot of this is my own reading!

[Hey, there's a free table. She makes a beeline for it to drop her books down heavily, then spreads a couple of the ones from her hands out.]

There's nothing that says I can't read ahead and get some extra learning in. I know book-learning isn't the same as actually going out and drawing a spell out of something but it's sure better than nothing, right? Besides there's a lot of stuff that we just don't have time to cover in classes, but is worth learning anyway.

... I understand a little bit of extra reading, I mean... I took my Biology teachers advice and grabbed a couple of texbooks. But... isn't taking them all with you everywhere kinda pointless?

[He suggests, moving over to grab a sandwich from the fridge before moving down the line to pay for it.]

I mean, we don't get that much free time in between classes.

[She follows him to grab her own sandwich, not feeling much concern about leaving her stuff behind. It's Garden, who would steal it?]

I'd rather have it with me than have to run back to the dorms. And this way I'm ready for anything that comes up!

[And she just kind of liked the image of being a super-serious studier and knowledgeable girl.]

Well. Rather you than me. I'll stick to my notes.

[Hope tapped his pad on his shoulder bag.]

Anyway. We have Political Science next right? [He sighs.] With Raines.

[gunblade_grrl]

[She blinks at him. THAT is more bizarre than him being an off-worlder. And possibly more unforgivable.]

What's wrong with Instructor Raines?

... It's a long story. He's from the same world as me.

[He's going to try and leave it that.]

Is that bad?

[She... isn't quite perceptive enough to leave it alone at that.]

I guess. My friends told me he changed... But I'm not sure. But I was rude to him when I first saw him when I came out of the infirmary. I guess it's just awkward, him being my instructor and all.

[He really is going to and try to avoid the REASON he was rude if possible.]
