Espio vs Gun Safety

Feb 24, 2011 01:13

[It's not all that surprising that Espio can actually use handguns. When it comes to class, after all, he is a very hard worker even on subjects he doesn't like, and the training he's taken has at least covered basic firearm usage and safety ( Read more... )

I know that guns are projectile weapons, but that is probably the most unique way I've seen them used since--oh, the time I decided that smacking a Scarlet Crusader to death with my bow was a good idea, since I was out of arrows.

[If Katsura is mocking anyone, it's mostly herself, but there's still a slight smile on her lips.]

I'll take it as a given that that's not your preferred method.

[Espio glares at the Instructor. He was sure nobody had been around to see! He instantly takes on a defensive tone, snapping at her.]

No. It's not. I'd rather not use guns at all.

Any specific reason? Or just prefer your fists? [She had said she'd like to observe...she just did it sneaky like! Though Kat doesn't react to the snap, seeming genuinely curious.]

[Shrug. He has his reasons, but he doesn't want to share on this occasion.]

Prefer my fists? I suppose you could say that.

I could say a lot of things, but being a marksman, I prefer accuracy.

[She gives a friendly wink at that, and chuckles softly.]

So a gun isn't a long-range weapon for you. Nothing wrong with that. But you do want something with distance? [Kat rests a hand on her chin, brows arching. Assessing.]

You ever tried anything else?

Only as far as I've needed to pass classes. I didn't really take to anything in particular. [Mostly because he wasn't looking for anything at that point.] Where I come from, firearms and superpowers are the go-to options for range.

There's magic, where I'm from, but I've heard that's looked down upon, here. Unless it's para-magic. [There's a wry look on her face at that, but as to the why, she doesn't elaborate.]

How about you throw something a little less explosive? A rock? Or if there's none to hand, you can use this.

[With a bit of rummaging, she holds out a balanced dagger, hilt first. Kat isn't too afraid of getting her fingers sliced, as she still prefers wearing her mail around at times.]

See what you can do with that, eh?

...try throwing a knife?

[Doubtful look. Such projectiles were only briefly covered in basic weapons training. But sure - he'll give it a go. What's the worst that could happen, with nobody else here to hit? Him missing?]

Fine. I'll try.

[He takes the dagger, and scans for a target. That tree will suffice - there's a mark left on it from someone hitting it with a blade at some point. He's going to aim for that.

One throw later, and the dagger is firmly embedded into the tree. He's missed his mark... but by a surprisingly small margin for someone with little experience. He seems disappointed, though.]

...I was aiming for the big gash.

How often have you done this before? [One brow is quirked, expectantly. With the questioning tone of his voice, Kat is curious.

She gestures to the tree and the knife.]

Would you do it again?

Only a few times. They were only covered briefly - I'd do better with a rock or something.

If you prefer a rock, you prefer a rock, I suppose, but for someone who has only done it a few times...

[She gestures to the dagger] You were nearly on the mark. Best amateur I've seen so far.

Throwing a rock is kinda different from throwing a blade, but I think I've got decent enough aim with them...

[At the comment, though, he glances to Kat curiously.]

You think? Huh...

I am not in the habit of giving undeserved compliments. If you can do one, you can learn to do the other. Easily, even.

[Meaning if he's decent enough, unpracticed, with rocks, he may just be damn good if he practices with...well, whatever he likes.]

Wouldn't hurt you to practice that.

Hmm... [Looks back to the blade embedded in the tree.] Well, I have been looking for something long range. Something thrown doesn't have that much range, but with invisibility I guess I can still hold an advantage.

[Yup. Cogs are whirring.]

Take it, then. I don't use them, really, but on occasion I pick up little things. [She shrugs, then.]

Maybe in a way it was meant to be yours. Stranger things have happened to me. Besides, rocks are easy to come by. Throwing daggers are less so.

[Espio looks slightly irritated when "destiny" is brought up, but goes along with it.]

Sure. I'll take it. ...thanks.

[And since he has no idea that it's the instructor he's talking to...]

So, who are you, anyway?
