I don't mean to be the one asking the daft question buuutt... for the purpose of this BB, what is your definition of a witch? Would a wizard count? Or is it anyone who can perform magic? What about Wiccans or Pagans?
(sorry to be a pain)

Glad you asked! (And no, it's not a daft question or a pain, just a difficult one to explain so we took a bit to come up with it.)

Hopefully this clarifies it somewhat beyond "uh, we'll know a witch when we see one." A person who self-identifies as a wizard would not be considered a witch, because they self-identify as something else.

10,000 - 20,000 words minimum

Does that mean that the story can't be over 20,000 words (in which case it should read "between 10,000 and 20,000 words", btw), or does it mean "10,000 words minimum, knowing that most stories will be between 10,000 and 20,000 words"?

It's not the first time I see this wording, which just doesn't grammatically mean anything, and I'll admit I find it rather confusing and a tad annoying... ^^°

Jumping in, hope that's okay. In that sentence she's actually defining what a Big Bang challenge is, and I'd say she means that the minimum is usually between 10,000 and 20,000 words, but differs challenge to challenge. The minimum for this specific challenge is listed later on in the post, under Author Requirements.

I didn't see it listed in interests so I'd rather ask and make sure... Would a story involving the Star Wars Fandom be ok? In particular from the Star Wars EU, the Witches of Dathomir, they practice magic, but because it's SW it's a bit unconventional and I just wanted to make sure first.

Thanks!

Can I ask if it is okay if say I used NCIS as a fandom but someone on that team is secretly a witch?

(I probably won't go down this route but I just wanted to ask in case my muse wants to do an witch!AU in a canon fandom!)

It is fine! witch!AUs are perfectly fine too, we have plenty of zombie apocalypse AUs shambling around the interwebs, might as well have some witchy ones too.

Another question to add to the list here.

Is RPF allowed as long as it's an au with witches(and could the characters be male as long as they identified as witches instead of say warlocks or wizards?)

Sure! Witch AUs of all kinds are welcome, and as we suggest in the definitions post, a witch is not necessarily female.

Besides, the Covenant was a movie all about male witches. ;)

yeah I totally noticed the definition post after I commented and then totally went *facepalm* I'm a tool.

also yay because apparently I now have a rpf au of practical magic doing it's best to take over as plot bunny supreme
