Well, the holidays were pleasant enough. As usual, we had Kindergoth open her gifts from Santa at home and then we headed to the inlaws. For the past few weeks, she had been mentioning how she wanted 'Sleepy-Time Bear' for Christmas. When Christmas morning came, because she wasn't up by 5, Ecamer and I traipsed into her room ringing sleigh-bells and bouncing on her bed. (Now, you may think me a horrible parent for doing such a thing, but seriously, who do you think is going to be waking who in a couple of years?) The look on her face was priceless and I know I took way too much joy in disturbing my child's peaceful sleep at that moment. Merry Christmas to me! She made a bee-line for the Sleepy-time bear under the tree and ignored the fact that she had other things until Ecamer reminded her of them. All in all, she was a happy child. We really couldn't get her much, but she really didn't seem to mind. I honestly think that she would have been satisfied with just the care-bear.
After a bit, we headed over to the inlaws where she received much more then she really needed. After about an hour and a half of opening gifts, she was finally done and the happiest kid on the planet. Then, the following conversation took place:
MIL: "Did Santa bring you everything you wanted?"
Kindergoth: "yeah"
MIL: "Oh, but I think Santa forgot something didn't he." (insert making my child upset here) "Santa forgot you wanted a pink car"
Kindergoth: (looking down and about to cry)
Me: "What?" (trying to decide what would be worse, them actually getting this gift for her or them doing this just to upset my child)
MIL: "Let's go look on the back porch"
*Ecamer and I exchanging horrified looks*
Sure enough, my inlaws bought her a Barbie Power-wheels jeep. Knowing that 'we' dont have a place for her to drive it around, and really, neither do they. Animatronic pony last year and a car this year.. what are they going to buy her next year? A house? *sigh* Anyway, she tried it out and is afraid of it. -_-
After that, we enjoyed the holiday meal complete with ham and tamales because they have tamales every year. It was yummy. I was very good. Didn't over-eat. Part of that was because of where they seat me. To get out, I would have to make at least 3 people move out of my way. So once I sit down, I wont get up until everyone els does. (Really sucks if I have to go to the bathroom though.) All-in-all, no family drama/bickering so I'm happy.

Yesterday we took Kindergoth up to Mt.Lemmon to see the snow. After the weekend, it was pretty much traipsed through by the Mexican and Arizonans who had better vehicles then us, not to mention the fact that it is about 30 degrees warmer now then it was 4 days ago. (Stupid AZ weather. It's going to be 74 today.) But the inlaws insisted that if we were going up the mountain then we needed to take the sled that they bought for her when she was just a baby. So we found a spot to play in the snow and show Kindergoth the joys of sledding. Ecamer picked the spot. My initial reaction was 'this area seems a bit steep for her', but he insisted that she would be fine. So he and Kindergoth hiked up a little ways and he put down the sled for her and she refused to get it. I told him that he would have to go first. He stood there a moment and then decided that he would show her it was perfectly safe.
Heh...
He went down really 9and I mean REALLY fast. The hill is a hell of a lot steeper then it looks in this pic. As you can see, there is a small tree right in his path on the left side of the pic.
Close up of the look on Ecamer's face as he tries to gain control of the sled.
The small tree did not stop Ecamer. He sailed right through it. Thankfully, on the other side of the creek, there was another tree with a rather large rock behind it. The rock derailed the sled from it's intended path toward the road, sending him up and then right back down again, onto his back.
I didnt get a pic of this because.. the caring person that I am, I was laughing my ass off.
I'm horrible. I know.
Needless to say, after that, Kindergoth was going nowhere near the sled. Sadly, Ecamer refused a reenactment for journalistic purposes.
After that, we made our way up and enjoyed the best pizza, hot cocoa, and hot cider that the top of the mountain had to offer. Then we visited the rainbow shop and I got some new incense as well as some free trials of 3 different types of cone incense from the owner. (Score!) Then we came back down and when we got into town, we wandered Bookman's (used book store) and picked up some lucky Buddha beer from Sunflower Market for New Years. All in all, not a bad day.
Today, I have to make a visit to our landlord. Seems the people upstairs are using their garbage disposal for a trash can again. Every time they use it, it gurgles up into our kitchen sink and it's getting pretty bad. Not to mention the smell.. Eww.
Hope all of you had a great holiday!
