Hurray, a candidate I can back!

Aug 10, 2007 11:36

Yay, I'm excited! I finally found a candidate that I can fully support! He may not have a chance of winning, but I'm glad that I'll feel good about the person I voted for instead of having to choose the lesser of two somewhat-but-not-really evils.

Please check him out.

P.S. Check out his wife, Elizabeth... hottie!

The youth of America do not care. They must be tricked into caring, by boobies. :)

But seriously, I'm an Obama girl, myself. If you haven't given him a looksee, I heartily recommend it. Check him out.

I have given him a thorough check. And as much as I like his ideas and the fact that he appears to be (somewhat - he's a "no" on gay marriage) on the sides that I am, I just think he's too much of a true politician for my taste. It seems (to me anyway) that he might be too willing to change his mind or his wording to please whomever he needs to for whatever situation. I think that's why I like Kucinich so much. He's not afraid to offend for what he believes in.

P.S. What has campaigning come to?

I know, its kinda ridiculous. I'm fairly certain that video (and this one) weren't in anyway funded or planned by the candidates in question, if that makes any difference.

Honestly -- and this is embarassing to admit, but its true -- the Obama Girl vs. Giuliani Girl video inspired me to start reading up on the candidates. I would've gotten around to it eventually, but that video got my ass in gear. :P

Well, first off, here's Obama's position on gay marriage:
"When you're a black guy named Barack Obama, you know what it's like to be on the outside," said the Illinois senator at the nationally televised forum in Hollywood. "And so my concern is continually to make sure that the rights that are conferred by the state are equal for all people."

Obama said he's "sympathetic" to gay rights advocates who view civil unions as "separate but equal." But he insisted civil unions "wouldn't be a lesser thing" as he proposed it, even though he conceded "semantics may be important to some."
So, yes, he's "no" on "gay marriage" -- but he's "yes" on the concept of any two people, regardless of gender, joining their lives and enjoying the civil benefits. And, like he said, the semantics may be important, but as far as I'm concerned, at the end of the day, the result will be the same. And I suppose you can look at that answer as a calculated political response, but in all honesty that's the sort of thing that's going to give him a chance to be ( ... )

I agree, I don't think he's changed his position on this issue and I saw the LOGO interviews the day after they aired (hurray for e-mail notifications).

And yes, I agree with you. I know Kucinich won't get into office in 2008 because he says exactly what he feels this country should be doing for it's people, but I'll be able to sleep soundly knowing that I voted for the guy that I think SHOULD have been President instead of trying to decide between two or three people that I'm not 100% happy with.

On a separate note, I feel that Obama's environmental policies are a bit mis-guided and wishy-washy. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely for the environment and if he got into office I don't think things would be any worse, but again, a bit vague in some areas or unwise in others. He seems well-informed...I don't detect the wishy-washy, but then again the scope of my knowledge of the science behind the environmental issues is fairly small. Kucinich seems to have his act together in that department, too.

Unrelatedly, watch Obama's speech on religion and politics if you get a chance. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
