Book review - Icelandic Magic, Stephen Flowers

One great joy of running a book store is the continued generosity of publishers - sometimes out of the blue. I recently opened a bubble envelope from Simon Shuster in New York, which contained a review copy of Icelandic Magic - Practical Secrets of the Northern Grimoires.

Stephen Flowers, Ph.D., is well known as a sometimes controversial translator and editor of obscure Northern Tradition texts, as well as many Red Wheel/Weiser titles on the subject of Runes and Norse myth.

This latest book starts with a brief yet valuable history of Iceland itself, and then more specifically of Icelandic Magic, and the many surviving ancient texts. These are then woven into a system of personal explorations towards building your own Galdorbok.

This is a detailed, thorough, and thus workable 'instruction manual' for those interested in Norse magic for personal betterment. It also contains enough well researched historical information to be of value to those who may wish to study the country and its unique approach to magic.
