Little Murders 12 - Another Taste

Jayne sat in his regular seat at the table, a crazy killer woman on the table where his plate would normaly sit. Her legs were draped to each side of him, her eyes looking up into his.

"Well...That went well...di'n get spaced or nothin'"

"The girl knew you would not. Captain needs an intimidating gun hand. And Simon..." She faltered a bit, she had been unsure of her dear brothers reactions. She had hoped he would see she was happy and be happy for her in turn.

She had been half right at least.

"Yer brother don' wanna mess with what makes you smile...even if what makes ya smile is an ox like me" He looked up as her little hands brushed through the hair at the front of his head and then searching, made their wa up towards the top. Her face was an amusing scene of inspection and curiosity. He smiled lazily, "Whatcha playin' at girl?"

"There are no horns. Jayne cannot be an ox without horns" A smile crept across her face as she reached the back of his head, she pulled his face gently up to hers. "Jayne is Jayne...and that makes her smile" She first kissed his forehead softly, then his lips.

And He didn't even flinch.

Simon and Kaylee were embracing each other on her bed. She was watching him silently, worried and quiet.

Simon sighed and finally scooted down so he could look her in the face while he slowly caressed her back. "Bao bei....What is it?"

She fidgeted, still watchin him. "You aint gonna stick Jayne with a poison or nothin...for d'flowering River an all?" Her face was one of complete and tender concern.

Simon nearly chuckled at her display of caring, "No...I will not be poisoning Jayne. River deserves to be happy, even if...especially if that means picking someone to be with she knows will only frustrate me." Simon kisses her forehead "She really is a brat sometimes."

Kaylee wrapped her arms around the young doctor to pull him close, burying her head in his chest.

"Were you that worried I would harm him?"

"No, was worried I was gonna have to beat you senseless with something...Jayne's crew."

Simon actually laughed aloud.

Mal, Wash and Zoe are sitting on the bridge.

"Well Captain, looks like we will be planet side in some...oh...I would say 8 hours. Should be shiny for our drop off time, if I do say so myself."

Zoe smiled softly and set her hand on Wash's shoulder. Turning to Mal, "That puts us near a day ahead of schedule. Give the crew some leave after we deal with...." Her words trailed off, Mal and Wash both understanding as Dr.White didn’t exactly leave the crew with a sense of confidence.

"Might be we have time to do as much. Then again, might not. Depends how our crime goes down. Wash, we got enough fuel to keep us flyin to the next moon? Things do go south, I wanna know I can burn towards elsewheres and make it there safe and soundlike."

A few bleeps and a clattering of keys later and Wash smiles, turning his whole chair around, "Looks to be all kinds of possible sir. Closest moon is run by a council of The Order."

Mal scoffs slightly. "Damn Preachers"

Jayne was half tossed half pushed through the doorway into River's quarters. She dove in after, kicking the door closed as she went.

Although their lips mashed together, Jayne was trying to control himself, a muffled "River" reached her ears around the vigorous kissing.

She stopped, and looked at him with wide, searching eyes. "yes, My Jayne?"

"I know...that this is where we are going...and believe me...I am gonna kick myself in the morning but...lets...just..." He sighed, unable to actually turn her down verbally.

Understanding flashed through River's eyes. "Jayne is worried she is simply complying with his needs...his...desires" She says the word with such sultriness - Jayne is nearly dumbfounded.

"I just think..."

"Jayne thinks we should simply sleep, and continue this later. There is the Job, and.." she smiles, reading his current thought.

"Yeah, and I ain’t goin anywhere...so why rush when we should both be getting some shut eye. Seems to me we’re gonna hav’ta see that damn clown again tomorrow. Who knows what he’ll make us do, eh?"

Rivers eyes fill with emotion as she hugs him, nearly tackling him back onto her bed. She snuggles in close, setting her head on his shoulder, fitting into the shape of his body.

.

..

...

"Jayne!" A clang resounds through the hallway as Mal kicks at the locked Hatch to Jayne's bunk. "Gorram man can sleep like the dead sometimes.... JAYNE!" The clang sounds a few more times. Before the bunk behind him opens and a slightly rumpled doctor in sleep pants and a loose shirt climbs out of the engineer's bunk.

"Morning Captain."

"Mornin Doc, How goes little Kaylee?"

"Just shiny Cap'n!" Even from inside her bunk they can hear the cheerful smile on her face.

"Gorram Girl would be more then a little annoying if she weren’t so damn likable.." Mal nods towards Simon before clomping off to the mess for a cup of coffee, lest he actually decide to kick in the mercenary's door.

Simon wanders down to his room, though they have discussed it at length, Kaylee's room is a little small to have the Doc completely move in; so he keeps the majority of his clothing and personal effects in his old room. His mind wanders as he considers this, mulling it over as he has for weeks. He passes Rivers room just as it opens up, revealing a rumpled looking Jayne, off to dress and collect his weapons for the day.

The two men lock eyes.

Oh Gorramit... Jayne freezes, waiting for the onslaught.

Simon sighs, lowering his eyes, "Wasted no time I see," then steps into his room, closing the door behind him.

A rush of anger fills Jayne, followed by the creeping of guilt and self doubt. Jayne turns and looks back, watching River sleep for a few more moments. She would never forgive him if he killed her brother over a misunderstanding, even if he was implyin’...what he was implyin’. With a sigh from deep in his chest he trudges off to get ready.
