Internet Epiphany

It occured to me last night when I was sitting at the internet cafe with Tails on FB, that the internet and social networking sites are almost completely 100% bullshit. Like I was reading peoples status updates about how "awesome" Download was, and half the people who said it were complete jobbers who stayed in their tents half the time, never even ( Read more... )

I think the 'omg download was amazing' thing is just pack mentality. I have no doubt everyone enjoyed it but as soon as one person posted on FB about how amazing it was it opened the flood gates. You went against the grain, quite a ballsy move there :-P

In relation to the online thing, I think you are possibly reading too much in to it. It's just the nature these days for updates and communication to be done through those sites. There is one kicking about between me, Kat, Deego and Mick where one person commented the other regarding Saturday night and the other 2 joined in. You wouldn't get that in 1 to 1 contact.

Oh and please text, I prefer texts to phone calls :-P

Maybe I am being too hard on FB. I completely agree that it can be good for just letting a large group of people know something at once without having to individually phone everyone. Like a "who wants to go to the pub tonight" FB status update is a hellova lot easier than calling everyone and asking. And yeah fair enough to the group talking thing too. I just get frustrated by the lack of communication between people sometimes. It always seems to be online or when at the pub when people are drinking. People don't seem to just talk anymore. I can't remember the last time you and I just talked. Not online. Must have been months ago. But then again talking online is better than not talking at all!! Fosho.

I'm SO going to phone you :P

I get what you mean, but think about it...we haven't 'talked' frequently in years. Since I left school we have went through the odd long phases of not seeing each other. We keep in touch via text and online but very rarely are we in a situation where we can just shoot the shit ( ... )

"Want strange looks? Walk about today with a jacket on, I did it at lunch so I
could put my ipod in the inside pocket. Might as well have had a sign saying 'I have leprosy' around my neck!"

Why couldn't you say this to people in work?

I keep work/Stephen and normal/Puggs quite separate. Minus myself and one other everyone else in finance is significantly older/wiser than myself and don't really have the same sense of humour as me. That would have sunk like a lead balloon

I should also add, I think I get a lot more out of these sites than a lot of people simply due to pipe bands.

I know loads of folks from a lot of different pipe bands but we only see each other maybe about 10 times a year tops. But it can be from sitting in the pub after a competition one night and yous hit it off. That is friends for life if you both stay in the scene over the years.

So having them on FB etc is excellent in that respect as you can keep in touch with everyone whereas you would barely see them from Sept one year to May the next.

But I understand that is exceptional circumstances that cannot apply to everyone.
