The new job is interesting. I have one person I'm having issues with and at first I thought it was a black white thing. Turns out at least from my office partner this woman doesn't like anyone. Has caused a problem cause she has knowledge I need. I did tell her that either she passed on the knowledge to me or she would end up with the project that I didn't have to be there. Didn't do any good.

Tonight we are practicing our drill for a major hurricane. We have 3 from the division who are participating. I get the 12 midnight to 8. Don't really care since I'm a major weather nerd. Should have done that in college. Anyway, they asked and what could I say - sure I'll be there. May have to work tomorrow night too.

I think I'm going to like this although my salary has been cut by a third. Damn that does hurt the budget! But at least I get lots of different things across my desk. I like the variety and even don't mind the emergency 'need it now' stuff. Dealing with folks child support checks to reworking all the brochures to a booklet. As I said quite varied. And I do get 18 days vacation and 12 days holidays. Thirty days off a year aint bad!

I do miss my old job and probably always will. I knew where I stood and could run to the bank or wherever during the day and didn't have to worry about it. The new job you scan your badge going in and going out. And from what I've heard someone looks at those reports. Nose to the grindstone type situation. You absolutely don't leave before 5. I'm one of those who get in at 7:30 (parkings good then) and go to work. Should get to leave at 4:30 - oh well it is the state. I've always assumed that if you do your job then who cares. And they don't pay overtime or relish comp time. I did get today off for tonights work.

But I'm working. Had to spend a lot of money while I was laid off. Sure could have used that money elsewhere.

Did get a 'new' car. My MIL didn't like it. She wanted a big car and this was a Chrysler Sebring Touring and red to boot. She wanted a big car. My FIL with alzheimer's thought this was the thing to have and vetoed what she wanted. So he is in a nursing home and can't say anything now. Anyway, I got her Chrysler and she got her big Buick. Aint life a bitch. Where did I read be good to your children. They get to choose your nursing home. BTW he is in the VA nursing home. A smart man who has lost it. What a shame.

Well, since we have no children I guess that isn't an issue for us (choosing a nursing home). Speaking of Greg would be 37 this year. Damn I'm old! This is not where I planned to be at this age. Thought I would be prepared for retirement and have grandchildren. Life doesn't always give you what you want or expect.

So far so good with the job. At least the state won't go out of business or downsize. You take what you can get!
