I went on a downloading kick for my friend Calene, and one of the things I downloaded for her was the jmovie "The Last Princess", which starred MatsuJun and Abe Hiroshi. Since it was on my computer anyway, I decided to watch it. The basic premise is that there are three countries (Yamana, Akizuku, and Hayakawa), and Yamana is in the process of conquering Akizuku. The only royal person left is the princess, and so she and her bodyguard are attempting to get to safety in Hayakawa, along with their country's treasure, and they are joined by two scruffy men in their journey.
It was a fun movie, though not one I really need to watch again. It's pretty bloody and violent, but seeing as the movie takes place during a time of war, this is not unexpected. Here are some of my random thoughts from the movie.
*I think I spent half the movie wondering whether that was really MatsuJun's hair and whether he had actually been able to grow a beard for the part.
*I love how Abe Hiroshi towers over everyone. He is also skilled at doing crazy eyes.
*The main villian reminded me of a samurai Darth Vader. That kept me highly entertained whenever he was on the screen.
*The princess's name was Yuki. I've noticed a trend of princesses being named Yuki. I want to know why this is so.
