So this is kind of one of those videos that comes out of a pure place. Just completely made of love and new appreciation of a show I should have been watching episode by episode from the start but had only seen in bits and pieces. At the same time, I did get to experience 2 and 1/4th seasons all at once. That made me a hot mess, let me tell you. I fell hard for Troy. Like, splat. Done. His vulnerability and odd moments of wisdom beneath all that surface obliviousness (his choices are so unique and lovely and I just !!!!), and especially his affection for Abed just hit every button spot on for me.
So I did what I had to do. I made a vid. I did light color and level adjusting, and lots of cropping due to the nature of their scenes together (*shaking my fists so hard at the credits*), but most of the work in this video was spent on balancing the bizarreness of Troy&Abed behavior with the very real foundation their relationship exists on. Despite, or because of, their issues, they are just totally the heart of the show. I wanted to show the funny, but I wanted to pull focus occasionally onto how unshakeable their friendship (and dare I say, "love") is. This video is a celebration, joy with just a touch of melancholy as maybe Troy has himself figured out here but is perfectly content with the status quo ("figured on not figuring myself out") + (like he loves Abed so much it doesn't matter if they ever officially become a couple because their friendship is just that awesome to him), but I think the inevitable future is obvious here as well. The song is a personal favorite of mine, and for those curious, it's actually a song written about the friendship between Pete and Patrick of Fall Out Boy (er, so the story goes), which connects all kinds of dots fannishly for me.
If you don't watch the show you should. Troy would want that kind of happiness for you. He's a friendly guy. Also, Abed is awesome. They have an excellent dynamic.
