Eternal Summer is one of those movies that leaves the story unresolved. For two years, the movie has been in the back of my mind. Reviewers of the movie said the frustrating vagueness of the movie took away some of its quality. I do not think they watched the same movie as I did, because while yes, it is obviously a movie that stays with you and makes you think, the story is not just in what is said and what is not said. The story can be found in the visuals, in the reaching out hand, the lowered eyes, an open book tossed helplessly by the wind. I watched a movie in which a boy named Jonathan did not want to fall in love with his best friend... who had long since already fallen in love with him. Jonathan dealt with that love by pulling a way. Shane, a lonely boy who was often punished by the teacher, dealt with that love by clinging, just by the fingertips, trying to find a better hold in anyway he could: stealing Jonathan's supposed love interest, and eventually seducing him. Every bit of imagery was of a man leaning desperately toward his friend. The movie ends with Jonathan higher on the horizon, again trying to leave. The water is behind them as Shane's whole body leans toward his friend as if he could cut away the space between them with his will.
I admit I needed to resolve the movie for myself, a little. I needed to encapsulate, in a video, why I feel the way I feel about the storyline.
This is a video that is meant to demystify. It takes the idea of point of view (from where you see), and is meant to show the biased nature of that. As it came together, piece by piece, I realized how suffocated Jonathan must have felt. I tried to convey that tension between them. There is a particular area that I think jerky, non-fluid motion worked in my favor for that, but I won't point that out.
I do not think I will ever get tired of vidding about love, sex, and desire. That's my niche, that's where I feel at home.
I love love.
In conclusion, I wanted to *reveal* this movie. Uncover it. I hope you see what I see, or see what you need to see.
PPS, if you say the super seekrit password, I might upload the movie if there is an interest when I return from work. That password is.... SKEEEEEETER. Every E counts.
Feedback? I thought you'd never ask! Yes, I'd love some.
