Spoilers, naturally. General Reaction Stuff.
So, I totally called the Nathan being shot the second I saw the podium, but my heart still broke when it actually happened. Like, there weren't any tears, but I was so shocked despite NOT being shocked. No Adrian Pasdar on my television screen, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? LALALALALALA HEAR NO EVIL, BITCHES. Honestly, in the end, I'm not too worried. This show is very bad at killing off characters the majority of people actually like. Or even only a few people like: Maya, anyone? And they're keeping Elle! Yay! This makes me happy. I know quite a few people hate her, but I have a huge thing for Kristen Bell in ANY role, so I'd like to keep her around. Maybe they'll write her a little better next season, hmm? One can always dream.
What I really loved about this episode, like it's any shock, was how hard Sylar eye-fucked Mohinder every time the camera was on them. I made a comment over at
mylar-fic that I'd be shocked if Mohinder wasn't walking bow-legged for all of next season, because for real, Sylar could probably not have sexed him up any more if there had been penetration. Oh. Wait. There was. With the needle and the 'ouch' from Sylar. That really shouldn't have turned me on. But. Well.
Outside of the eye-sexin', Sylar once again tried to connect with Mohinder, was even, was that, what, flirting? With the "life has its poetry" line? He sounded flirty. And then, when Mohinder disclaimed Sylar's 'we're fated rinse-repeat-esque' comment with yet another 'you murdered my father, prepare to die', he tried to make Mohinder understand his motivations. Again. And he kept trying to maintain eye contact when Mohinder would look away. Well, at least Sylar is consistent. In that one conversation, we had an echo of the conversation in Unexpected, and one in Parasite. I bet he has a promise ring for Mohinder and everything.
Oh! And the little look he gave Mohinder before he shot Maya? For some reason, it hit me right in the gut. I'm not sure why. The look itself struck me as half annoyance 'I'm busy figuring shit out', half 'she's going to make me shoot her in front of Mohinder', which doesn't make sense really, when he was rubbing his deviant habits right in Mohinder's face earlier in the episode as they first entered Mohinder's lab. Still, it struck me that way. He doesn't really want Mohinder to hate him. He can handle that hatred, but he'd prefer Mohinder softer toward him. It'd make the whole fixation much easier to handle.
And he let Mohinder live! Again! Even without Elle's interference, Sylar was on his way out without shooting Mohinder in the head. Do you think Mohinder has a special power after all? Gets-Beat-Up-ALOT-but-not-dead-yet? It's pretty bad that one of my justifications for Mohinder/Sylar is the fact that half of the pairing won't kill the other half. *face/palm* I would really like to do a manifesto for these two. With pictures and video clips and actor interviews. Really badly.
It's so freaky that these guys have become my happy-making pairing. They're just really creepy and awesome and fun. I need to cling to that when the Petrelli brothers make me want to CRY like a teething infant.
SGA is really spoiling me this season. Yes, it is always very slashy, but more in a camp, these guys are weird together way. This season is all about connections, the ties that bind, the do anything for you. There are a lot of different opinions on why John did what he did, 'presenting' the situation in which a man killed himself so Rodney would not do the same. Some think he had already had a plan in place and just used it then. Some believe he would have done the same for anyone. Me? I think John would die for anyone at the drop of the hat. But hand someone else over? Not so much. I don't even know that he would do the same for anyone BUT Rodney at this point. At the very start of this season, he was willing to allow Elizabeth to die for the greater good, ordered Rodney to all but kill her, even though it was clearly wrecking him to do so. But with Rodney, it was, "I can't" --- what? I mean, you don't have to automatically go to the slash-colored glasses. It's this simple: Rodney is John's most important person. However you want to take that.
I did question why John didn't offer himself over as dinner for the Wraith. That seems like a very in character action for him. What does he have to live for now that he didn't have to live for in the past? Now that's a question I'll be wondering about, because I can't be convinced that John did what he did out of any pre-conceived knowledge that they'd have further need for the Wraith. He was going to let that Wraith die. He didn't think there was any other alternative. It was only when Rodney stepped in to offer his own life that John MADE an alternative.
And it wasn't something he took lightly or carelessly. It fucked him up. And by the way he was staring at Rodney when Rodney found out (and later, when Rodney came to his room), how terrified he was of how Rodney would react.
Wow. I am just. Like. Blown away. John loves Rodney SO much, you know? And Rodney has no idea, or if he has any idea at all, it's mixed with a healthy dose of confusion.
