"I feel God in this Chili's tonight. WOO HOO!"

Though I'd never seen the show, I recently read a critic's review of The Wire in which he said that we often moan about the dearth of "quality programming", yet we ignore so many excellent shows that languish in the ratings -- I can certainly name a few. So I figured I should take that to heart and set a TiVo season pass for The Wire. Hearing that this season's main focus is on an inner-city 8th grade teacher (a subject with which I can definitely identify!) piqued my interest. I watched the first two episodes of S4 last night, and I *really* enjoyed it. Surprising, since that style of show usually bores me. I'm not quite motivated to seek out the first three seasons, but I'll definitely be watching the rest of this one. And I was very pleased to see that HBO has renewed it for S5!

Am looking forward to tonight's Studio 60 premiere. I loved Alan Sepinwall's column in which he calls it Aaron Sorkin's Mary Sue story. ;) Time also had an article comparing it to 30 Rock, and I very much appreciated this paragraph: Which is not to say 30 Rock is cynical. But where Studio 60 reveres television, 30 Rock loves TV, and that makes the difference. At one point in Studio 60, the show's director cracks a joke that a stressed-out Danny fails to appreciate. Says the director: "It's a comedy show, dude." Good thing somebody remembers that.

And of course I watched the premiere of The Amazing Race 10. I started to write up thoughts on the various teams, but EntWkly's recap says everything I wanted to say (especially re: Duke and Lauren and "I bet one of those male models could turn her around if they'd just take her out dancing." Sigh. On the plus side, I liked most of the teams.

Oh, but the best? Tyler and James. True, they're totally the now-stereotypical studly prettyboys who'll place in the top four, but I about died when their interview began with, "Tyler and I -- we actually met through heavy drug use. We were both addicts and then we met in recovery, and that's when our friendship really blossomed." Dude. They met while strung out on (I assume) heroin. That's pretty fucking awesome, man.

But the real star last night? PHIL! Sure, TAR9 only ended a few months ago, but I still missed you, my snarky, supafine Kiwi! Yeah, I say it every season, but do give TAR a chance, even if you're not into reality shows. The teams seem like actual people instead of famewhores, but the best part is seeing all the places they visit all over the world. It's often called "the Cadillac of reality TV", and for good reason -- though Project Runway is giving it some competition.

Was quite pleased to grab The Office DVDs at Blockbuster tonight. Sure, I already have all the eps on .avi, but the DVDs are still fun. I don't usually watch all the extras, so I'd love to hear which DVDs and outtakes are worth a look! (Aww... Drunk!Pam just won the Whitest Sneakers Dundie!)

I was also pleased to check my TiVo season passes and see "The Christmas Invasion" finally appear on my to-do list. YAY! Sure, I've seen them all before, but Doctor Who is still a must-record.

Some links for y'all this fine evening:

-- I have absolutely no desire to watch Rachael Ray's new talk show, but PopWatch's recap made me giggle. It perfectly captures the essence of OMGRACHAELRAY!!!1!

-- More McSweeney's fun: toddler t-shirt slogans (hey, psychomab, can I make a few of the "unacceptable" ones for my future niece/nephew?), American Girl dolls write to President Bush, and An overheard conversation at the suburban neighborhood pool, if the suburban neighborhood pool were in Deadwood.

-- From the Best of Craigslist: Married means MARRIED, you moron. Wow, the bitterness is both scary and a thing of beauty.

-- Salon's new "Literary Guide to the World" features contemporary Australian literature. I loved the Peter Carey kudos, since Oscar and Lucinda is my favorite book ever. :)

-- The Washington Post talks about Randolph-Macon Woman's College choosing to go co-ed and the future of women's colleges nationwide.

-- Since annelise13 and I keep trading links, I really liked The best time to buy everything. The suggestions for wine and airline tickets were especially helpful.

Finally, thanks for all the grammar peeves -- they were really fun to read! And at some point I'll catch up on comment replies. ;)
