"The Motherfucker with a Turban" is a pretty damn awesome episode title, yes? And it feels pretty darn good to be writing meta again!

It does look like things might go in that direction, particularly if they want Lewis around next season. The main sticking point for me is motivation. Ever since the Issa flashbacks in S1, Brody has been driven by vengeance for Issa's death and the drone strike. If we take the suicide video at face value, all Brody wanted was Walden's death, with the deaths of all those State Department officials in the bunker as an added bonus. He never seemed interested in making others suffer, especially innocent civilians. He has never been a part of the centuries-long war that Nazir outlined last week; indeed, Brody professes to love America itself, and religion bears no apparent part in his terroristic actions.

Now, I could be wrong! So much of Brody's psyche is still a huge mystery. He could easily have changed. But if Gansa and Gordon want to make him into the next Nazir, they would need to demonstrate a massive shift in his attitudes in the finale and give him a plausible motivation for wanting to bring down the U.S. and lead this holy war. And that's why although I'm steeling myself for a possible betrayal Sunday in which we find out he's been playing Carrie and the CIA on the path toward another date with a suicide vest, it just won't make sense to me as things stand now, because he HAS accomplished his original stated goal of making Walden pay for that drone strike.

But hey, stranger things have happened! I'm almost glad that I haven't seen any detailed spoilers (yet), because I am so terrified of next week that I don't think I could resist the possibility of reassurance. ;) I just want Carrie to be okay -- well, as okay as she'll ever be -- and for Brody to still be alive.
