1. I started yet another new sweater, with the same pattern I used for my sister's birthday present. The design itself is quite simple/sedate, so I thought this would be a great chance to show off some variegated cotton from my friend's yarn store. The colorway is "Cherries Jubilee", and it seemed like a great idea at first. Now that I'm done with the collar, I realize that
it looks a bit like an unholy mixture of poo and Pepto. Yikes! I'll probably just keep going and wear it anyway when I'm done. Might as well take a few risks, right?
2. Speaking of clothes... I mentioned a while back that I was frustrated by how Old Navy's plus-size selection is only available online, and they charged $6 return shipping if you didn't want something you'd bought. Plus sizes are erratic as is, so why punish us when something doesn't fit despite it supposedly being our correct size? Well, I ordered two shirts that arrived yesterday. One is great, and the other is ... yup, WAY too big even though it's the size I usually wear. I read the back of the invoice, and it turns out Old Navy has changed their policy. Now all returns are free! Excellent. Thought I'd give y'all a heads-up!
3. I'm still reading up a storm. Thanks to a suggestion from
queenofthorns, I've been checking out Laura Lippman -- just her standalones thus far, but I have a couple of her Tess Monaghan series in my stack. I also really liked Tana French's Dublin trilogy, per
taragel's rec last winter. One frustration, though, is that I know almost nothing about the contemporary mystery/suspense genre, and I'd really prefer to read books with female protagonists. Any suggestions would be welcome!
4. I also really miss writing fic. Haven't written anything at all since last fall, nor have I been that inspired. I keep wanting to do something else in the HG universe, but no ideas have popped into my head. Last night I dusted off that AU fic with Kara as Lee's bodyguard. No idea if I'll ever finish it, but it'd feel good to throw myself into a story again.
5. And I'm quite happy to see that
L&O:UK is returning next month! BBCA's "Bamber Broadcasting Corporation" promo is rather brilliant. :)
