1. Glorious news!
Next month, Oprah will reunite the entire cast of The Sound of Music, also known as My Favorite Musical (and Top Five Movie) of All Time! WHEE! Please let it be her Favorite Things episode. "YOU get bright copper kettles! And YOU get warm woolen mittens!"
2. I was initially excited about today's news that Southwest has bought AirTran, with strong hints that it was to finally break into the Atlanta market along with northeast expansion. Nearly all my flights these days are ATL-DFW, so it's great to have another option. On the other hand, now I hear that it could mean less competition and higher fares, and that Southwest's really aren't much cheaper than AirTran's. Hmm. Guess I'll see how it shakes out. At least I won't have to pay for checked baggage on SW.
3. I *finally* exchanged my broken TV! The process turned out to be fairly simple, and I'm grateful that a friend came along to help with the heavy lifting. Best Buy just gave me credit for a "comparable" TV to the 37" LCD I'd originally bought. Thanks to the wackiness of HDTV prices constantly dropping, along with weekly sales, I actually got quite an upgrade: Samsung 42" plasma, and with a hundred bucks in store credit left over. Nice! Unfortunately, I'm not all that impressed with the plasma thus far. The colors and black are richer, yes, but the picture seems blurrier than on the old one, and all my tweaking hasn't improved things much. I suppose I'll keep playing around with it.
4. I have another product return dilemma. Last spring I bought a set of Hiya Hiya interchangeable needles from a friend's LYS. I was disappointed with them from the start -- too small for my hands, and the joins kinda sucked. I didn't return them at the time because it wasn't my friend's fault that I didn't like them. Over the summer, one of the joins fell apart, and Hiya Hiya replaced it via mail. Well, last weekend another join failed, and I emailed a replacement request for the entire set since mine appears to be faulty. They replied today by telling me to mail them only the defective join "to see if it is eligible for replacement". Ugh, why do I get the feeling they'll find an excuse? Maybe they think I'm trying to scam them. At this point, I'm tempted to just throw the whole thing in the bin.
5. This has already been linked everywhere, but even if you're not planning to watch The Walking Dead, you should check out
these amazing fan-made credits for the series. The animation work is really incredible, and they really suit the vibe of the comics. There are probably quite a few legal reasons why the series can't use them, but I wish it would.
