We're starting a schoolwide literacy class this year -- thirty minutes at the start of every day, with silent reading and mini-lessons on comprehension and vocabulary. ETA: I meant to add that another complication is that I'm a bit intimidated by the comics fans! They can get kinda hardcore sometimes. ;) I'm sure they'll be lovely, and TV fandom is a very different thing than comics, but it should still be an interesting experience!
Yeah, Lincoln's great, but I'll reserve judgment on the accent. ;)
HG and CF are probably a bit much for my 11-12 year olds, but good for the older kids. I'm not sure I'd even want the 8th graders reading MJ, though! (Same with Chaos Walking. I've seen Ness's assertions that young readers can and should handle those types of stories, but I don't quite agree with them in part because of the bleakness and very adult themes and that they might not be mature enough yet to really understand everything that is going on.)

To his credit, I only noticed the accent being really weird in the first line he said. (Still wish Jamie had gotten it!)
Yeah I'm not sure how dark is too dark. I remember reading some crazy shit (Flowers in the Attic...probably some Stephen King) when I was middle school ages though.
