Belle and Sebastian, you confuse and delight me.

Long, long ago, back in 1997, Belle and Sebastian were easily my favorite band. After releasing If You're Feeling Sinister, they spent the summer releasing three EPs that were all a marvel of clever songwriting and stunning emotional insight.  I still remember sitting around listening to each new EP as it came out with my housemate/boyfriend,  both ( Read more... )

What a cool song! Actually I wasn't sold until about the 4 min. mark, when it all comes seems to fall into place. And then I was sad when it ended and had to play it again. Thanks for sharing it!

You say you didn't follow B&S after 1998. Does that mean you missed their two last fabulous albums Dear Catastrophe Waitress, that echoes Tigermilk while adding a healthy dose of Northern soul and strings, or The Life Pursuit where they go glam and channel Marc Boland? Those albums revived my love for them (that yes, was flagging from Arab Strap).

*That Tigermilk link is to a song on Dear Catastrophe Waitress, not Tigermilk -- realized that wasn't clear!

After I heard Your Cover's Blown I exclaimed to a friend who never lost the faith, and he downloaded Dear Catastrophe Waitess onto my iPod for me, which I've been enjoying. Especially if she wants me (Track 3). I do NOT have The Life Pursuit and now will find it straight away, as I trust your opinion completely. I hear what you're saying about that 4 min mark, it does really gel at that point. I think I remember that being the point in my first listen where I started really grooving to it. Before that I was thinking, (while running) "Wow, they never had bass lines like this before!" Of course, when I checked I found they had a different bass player.

So I thought I would share this with you, the song that I've needed to listen to at least once a day since I first heard it, the song I listened to when I snuck away from my husband's family on Christmas telling them I had to go brush my teeth, then my husband found me dancing to it in our room like a teenager hiding from her parents....just to hear a song.

HAHAHA, that is totally the type of thing I would do!

Isn't a great feeling? Like a secret (but totally wholesome) love affair.

I still need to spend more time with this band. Did you hear Stuart interviewed on Fresh Air? Very interesting. If you haven't heard it, you can listen here.

Thanks, Melty, I hadn't heard that interview. It was fun hearing some of the stories that I've read be told in Stuart's voice (with that great Scottish accent). Did you notice Terry Gross wasn't really bringing her A game to that interview? I usually love her but she was a bit inarticulate at times, grasping to get points across or find words. Guess we all have our off days.

Funny, I didn't remember that about the interview. I kinda love how she always stammers at least a little bit. But I usually find her questions very insightful and fresh.
