One would have to be selfless, to wish for something knowing they must give up everything for.

Everything is a rather strong word. All that is required is the price be equal and fair, to ensure that balance is kept.

All wishes are, by their nature, selfish to a degree, but the willingness to sacrifice something of equal significance to gain one's wish is a mark of something above and beyond as well.
