Progress!

nightwolfwriter and I took the daughter unit in for her vision re-evaluation this evening. She's going to have to go through at least one more set of sessions--possibly two--but she really showed some nifty progress tonight.

Truthfully, I didn't know what to expect. I can't really see any difference, and neither could my daughter, but the tests proved otherwise. Now granted her depth perception is still not great--that's probably going to be the focus of her next series of appointments--but the good news outweighed the bad.

First off, she had less trouble visualizing. She could rotate simple line drawings and replicate block patterns with less trouble. Second, her left eye is "on" most of the time now, and being ignored less. Last, and most significantly was her reading progress. She has less problems with comprehension, and more with how many times she looks at words on a page. Best case is for a person to look at each word once. They have a machine that can track eye movement and count how many times the eyes look at words. My daughter read 100 words, and her count was about 150. That doesn't sound all that great until you consider her initial score was well over 300!

All in all, I'm pleased with the way things are going. :-D
