I went to the library this past Tuesday and came back with a big armload of books. There are many areas of Computer Science, and unfortunately this new job of mine is rooted in an area I know next to nothing about. I've always been more of an application programmer. Networks, operating systems, and the Internet were things I took for granted up to now.
So, yeah, I have some reading to do. It sort of keeps my mind off my AWOL test results *glares at inbox*. (ISC)2 must be sending them via a slow boat to China. :-p
The family and I drove up to Hershey Park this past Saturday. All in all it was a nice day. My favorite part is Zoo America, and the nice thing was the weather was cool so the animals actually came out to say "Hello!"
nightwolfwriter was especially happy because a couple of wolves came right up to the fence. The bobcat, lynx, and mountain lion all made appearances as well. I'll post some pictures this weekend when I have the time to fuss with them.
The rest of my time has been going to work, attending a parent-teacher conference, and essentially trying to help my daughter survive being thirteen. I can't seem to convince her that
a.) The world isn't out to get her.
b.) All her friends/peers don't hate her.
c.) Step Dancing requires practice.
d.) Homework has to be done.
e.) She is not stupid/ugly.
I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea. *Heh* I understand now why my mother and mother-in-law were so patient with her when she went through her colicky period as a baby. I was ready to rip all my hair out, but they would just rock and walk and sing, completely unruffled, for as long as it took to calm her down. They knew, as I've come to understand, that physical hurts and needs are much easier to deal with than emotional ones. So yeah, when I'm out and hear a baby crying, I sigh sentimentally, then think, "Strap in folks, wait'll he/she hits the teen years!"
Oh, I also finished my daughter's scarf last night. Well, the knitting part, anyway. I still have to weave in all the pieces of yarn sticking out of the side. There are two of them everywhere I changed colors (old color, new color). You can see them
here in one of
mollymorrison's "crime scene photos from a couple of weeks ago. The weaving is a little tedious, but doable. Not something I had to do with my first project. (Thank heavens!) ;-)
nightwolfwriter left yesterday for
Archon. It's his last show of the year, thank goodness! He's gone just about every four day weekend from President's Day through Columbus Day. Of course football season has started so Sundays are still shot, but it's better than the entire weekend.
Oh, well. Since he's gone, I think I'm going to go to a yarn show down in VA with
mollymorrison on Sunday. I'm also supposed to get together with some friends on mine on Monday. Saturday, I have earmarked to work on my sorely neglected flowerbeds, and my equally neglected fanfic, "Realizations." If I'm lucky I can at least sort the chapter out I was working on before NEW JOB and CISSP took over my life. I really am close to finishing the thing--should have no more than 5 chapters left, total. That's the game plan, anyway. Wish me luck!
Cheers,
Wish
