I won!

Just had a fantastic couple of days on the gigging front.

On Thursday, Ewan (N) and I were both at The Victoria Inn doing our comedy thing - only they were different Victorias!

Whilst N was running our regular comedy night in Northampton, I was at the Victoria in Birmingham doing a support slot for Sarah Millican at James Cook's monthly comedy night.

I've heard reports back from the Northampton gig - I hear the place was rammed, which is excellent - and we had a fabulous line-up. Paul Savage, Lee Goodall, THE Johnny Sorrow, Alex Clissold-Jones, Tom Young, Ben Briggs, Lou Chawner and Jem Brookes. I hear that everyone had a nice night. Young Tom, our local newbie, did well, and no surprises everyone loved Johnny Sorrow. Thank you so much to all the comedians for making the night what it was.

N dressed as a bunny at one point, I have to add - all relevant to the act, though. If you were there, you may have been a bit bemused, but I have to tell you, I am so proud of him making that costume! The boy can sew!

...and of course, if you are local to Northampton, you really need to come along to our gig next Friday 20th at Earls Barton. We've got the fantastic Kevin Dewsbury, magic man Al Rudge, lovely MC Pete Teckman and marvellous support from Rich Wall and 80's Luke. Profits to Children in Need - check out the website for more details.

Now time for me to squee. I was at James Cook's gig, The Comedy Kavern on Thursday with fellow support acts Darren Harriot (he is so young and so good!) and Lee Grant with his mucky songs - we love 'em! I had an excellent time, having a laugh with Melanie Smart before the gig about the contents of this week's Take a Break. She's a new comic with bags of talent - watch out for her!

I had a good gig, not entirely happy with some of my delivery on a couple of lines, but good gig nonetheless. Afterwards, a young man came up and patted me - yes, patted me! - and said he really liked my set and Sarah Millican said, "I nearly pissed myself" at one gag in particular, which made me beam.

And what about Sarah Millican? Her set absolutely blew me away, and I was doubled over most of the time. She is just so brilliant! Her delivery is seamless, gag-packed, warm, at times a little cruel, but nice-cruel - and incredibly hilarious! If you have not been to see her, please go! You will not be disappointed.

I stayed overnight with my mom and dad in Wolvo, and then went straight to a gig in Wolverton on the train - that's near Milton Keynes. This one was a poetry one - Poetry Kapow at the Madcap Theatre. The room was decorated with spooky things to celebrate Friday 13th, including Victorian stuffed animals that we were urged not to lick in case arsenic had been used in the taxidermy. I had an excellent time, eating the free biscuits and flapjack, drinking cider, meeting poets and performers. It was fab.

It was meant to be a slam and open-mic, but there were not enough willing slammers, so we had two rounds and an audience vote for performer of the night... and I won! I got a £10 book voucher to spend in Borders (mmm... need to order a Daniel Fox book methinks!). PLUS I got asked to be featured poet at the next event. How happy was I? Very!

Also, there was a fab end-set from the Antipoet - that was very funny. Poetry set to a double-bass accompaniment. I liked them a lot.
