Last week i secured a delegate attendance(3k paid tix), and arranged a sponsorship meeting for this tuesday. They released the weekly sales report and now I'm second last in the delegate sales team, haha after joining the co for 2 weeks and selling for 1 week. The guy at the last place must be hating that the newbie is creeping ahead.
Not too bad.
But I'm feeling the pressure. This isn't the usual telemarketing or hi card promoting part time job anymore. It's more like an actual, inside sales job where I have to account for the figures to the panel every single week. The work load is much more demanding this time too and I have to put up with all the different accents from around the world. Stockbroker-ish, except I know nothing about stocks. Got to digest the telecom industry jargon though, cos this event is for the telcos.
Yes, it's a temp job, I can quit and it will have no implications on my resume.
But I shouldn't have it so easy all the time. This isn't about $$$, but yes, the compensation package is very attractive for a fresh poly grad who can only work temporarily. Healthy basic plus enticing comms.
This is more about honing my skills and possibly, explore a career in marketing. Yes, right now, I do the dirty work, make the sales call, try to be engaging, do the weekly presentations to the panel and send the annoying emails.
It made me better though, I'm now bolder than the credit card pushers at mrt stations. I also got hell alot better with my words. If do this well, I can have enough bragging rights to put in my resume and land a good job in the marketing side of the companies I apply for, in the near future. Well, the objective of marketing is to make sales right? David Ogilvy started out as a door to door guy selling cooking stoves.
Hope it's a good week ahead, and I cant wait for the end of July.
