Today we finally got our things. Although I shouldn't be that aggravated that it took this long, because its really not that long at all. When we moved to Texas it took more than a month to get our things. Then again we paid 3x as much for this move to go with a reputable company. So far, there don't appear to be any casualties from our move.
The movers were due here at 7, but due to our past experiences with their lack of punctuality, we didn't set our alarm. They called at 8 saying they were outside. Dan and I slept on our new sofa last night (it is big enough that we can both stretch out with room for Oz and Sophia) so we threw on some clothes and let them in. I worked on my Mahalo page while Dan directed the movers. We were hoping to put our old living room furniture in one of the upstairs rooms. Our old sofa is a sleeper sofa and it would have worked well in a game room. However it is too big, so is our old arm chair. Right now the arm chair is in our living room and the sofa in our dining room. We want to get rid of the sofa. We have nowhere to put it and it is simply disgusting because of the dogs. We're hoping to sell it for $50 on Craigslist or worst case, donate it to Salvation Army or something.
Around 10:00, Dan left for a work meeting and I directed the movers and emailed back and forth with
jupiterjuniper. The movers left around 11 and shortly after the guys came to uncrate the TV. Then I worked on unpacking, until Dan called to tell me he was on his way home. We needed to go get our cars registered and our new drivers' licenses before 4:00 because our landlord was coming over. Instead of going to the DMV, we went to the Tax Collector because they could do the license and registration. One of the things I love about being back in a small town is places like the DMV/Tax Collector don't have lines. We waited for 30 seconds before they called our number. As with everything else during this move we hit a slight snag. When Geico sent us our new insurance cards it still said it was for California. So we had to call them and have them fax the Florida cards to the DMV. Other than that things went smoothly. Dan and I have to call our lein holders and have them send the titles to the tax collectors, but other than that we are good to go. We have our new licenses and we each got cute new plates. Florida has a ton of different license plates you can choose from. If you don't want the standard one you can pay around $25 a year to get a different one and the money goes to a charity related to what is on the plate. I chose
this one and Dan got
this one. We were in and out of the tax collectors in less than an hour.
We came home and passed out on the couch. I think the relief of finally having all of our stuff made us exhausted, or maybe it was the sight of all the boxes we have to unpack. We slept for over an hour, then woke up, had a healthy dinner of Taco Bell, and went to work unpacking. Dan hooked up our new PS3 to our tv and we oogled over the HD version of 300 and our surround sound system. I finished unpacking the kitchen and Dan made up our bed. We cannot wait to sleep in our bed tonight. Unfortunately it will only be for one night because tomorrow we are going to my parents and are back on the air mattress. But thats only for 2 nights so it won't be bad at all. I think we'll have to bring Sophia's bed with us though, she was so excited when we unpacked it tonight! She's so cute.
Well I am off to enjoy my super cozy bed!
