Something I've been thinking about.

This post is sort of being inspired by the tv show 30 Days. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a tv show by Morgan Spurlock, the guy who did Super Size Me. The premise of the show is that someone is placed into a setting that they are unfamiliar with for 30 days, hoping of course they will come out with a new knowledge on that issues. I looked up the definition of "church," and it comes down to being a religious service.. well, Atheism is a religion (definition: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects).. just because they don't have a god or gods, doesn't mean they don't discuss their beliefs. So the idea that the Government won't fund them because they don't believe in a high power is ridiculous. Perhaps "Free Thought" isn't a religion, but Atheism certainly is. If the Government is willing to fund other religious organization, they should fund Atheist organizations. If they won't, then in all fairness they shouldn't fund any of them.

You have a point with the not being able to perform Nativity plays in schools, they shouldn't be able to perform Jewish-based or any other religious plays either to be fair. There shouldn't be any sort of religious anything in schools, because kids should have the right to decide for themselves.. though abstinence is still taught in most of the country, even though it's been proven that abstinence only health classes doesn't keep our children from going out and having unsafe sex, it just gives sex a social stigma, to the point where they are embarrassed to take the necessary precautions to prevent bad things from happening. They can't make informed decisions if they don't have the means of being informed.

As far as Christmas is concerned, there has been Religious holiday celebrations based in the winter in religions dating back to Paganism. Christianity isn't unique when it comes to this.. Science has actually proven that it's almost impossible for Jesus to have actually been born in the December. Christians just took cues from other religions to strategically place Christmas... but since we live in a Christian society, Christmas was the prevailing holiday to choose from. The word Christmas is religious, but as you said in your "Liberal Double Standards" post, the meanings of words change. This is an example that has changed in more recent years. (And I'm sure this bothers you as much as it bothers homosexuals that "gay" has become synonymous with "stupid.")

Though, you mentioned that you're not allowed to wear your crucifix.. how does that work? Plenty of people wear them without ridicule, why have you been singled out?
