more name discussion

Well, my mom is here and she is adamant I not name girl Pace. She hates it.

She has lots of opinions and thinks I should name child for myself but should use my real first name of Melissa as middle name.

She is open to Harper though.

But isn't it my baby and not hers?

Interesting!

I would think my mom would be happy with using Pace (even for middle name) as it is for my side of family and Caden is named for Chris and really it is my deceased father's last name so for him in a way. But she says later she is jealous child is not named for HER as she is one who insisted I be conceived and born. So some of it is her usual jealousy crap and guilt trip. I cannot use her name Patsy Edwina Clark Pace. I mean really. I thought about Clark Callero but we've decided we want Caden to be the only C name as something unique for her, plus it is my grandmother's last name and I was not close to grandmother.

I do understand doing something with legitimate reason. Both she and my mother in law had issues with name Carly when we were naming Caden and I accepted that. (it was easy for me though as it wasn't my favorite name but my husband's favorite)

It is going to be hard to do everything everyone wants.
1) unisex or strong name for girl
2) other name more feminine
3) saint name
4) use Pace somehow as Southern tradition to use maiden name

No name meets all these and I will have to figure out which is most important to me.

Names we've thrown around lately are Harper Gianna (Gianna is feminine form of John, Chris' deceased brother)
Pace Gianna
Harper Melissa
Paige Gianna

(my full name is Melissa Page Pace Callero)

You could go uberMississippi and call her Mary Pace. Or Anna Pace. Or Martha Pace or Julia Pace. Or another smocked-dress double name. I say strike 1 & 2 if it will make it easier for you and Chris to come to a happy, joyful decision (or couple of options that await a good look at the baby). The saint's name will be more traditionally feminine (unless you use a male saint), and Pace deserves its place, whether first or middle. It seems to me that using Pace is more meaningful to you than using Melissa or Page.

This should be wonderful and happy, not unduly stressful.

Thank you for your thoughts! It has really made me look at what is important to me. Using Pace is more imp that using Page or Melissa. However, I would rather not name after me if it means using a second name I don't like. So I will use Pace somehow or not at all if that makes sense. I think. Was naming Caden this hard? Probably but all that stuff goes away. Chris says he now wants to just read a baby names book for inspiration.

grins at Chris and ((hugs)) for the stress. If he must read one, I always recommend Beyond Jennifer and Jason, or anything by the authors thereof.

I remember that naming Scarlett was a lot harder than naming Sophie. I wonder if that happens often when you have more than one of each gender? I mean, you change, times change, and you used the dream name the first time around, KWIM?

I'm thinking of you.

Thanks! We got the name Caden from that book! It is one of the first times in baby name book history that Caden is listed. It suddenly skyrocketed on popularity charts after that. Of course we know no girls named Caden so it still feels unique to us.

By the way, I did consider Mary Pace since his mom's middle name is Mary but I would not like her to be called Mary in some circles.

We have time. I am setting this aside now.

Part of our issue is that every time we say something outloud, Caden says"oooo, I don't like that!"

Also she is stuck on my all-time favorite name Clementine. But is it super girly next to Caden. Although Clem or Clemmie would be cute I think. But Chris HATES this name so I let it go a long time ago.
