1. I have a new laptop. It just arrived in the mail today. This is the first new piece of tech I've gotten--bar my Kindle (which is now ancient) and a crappy cell phone that was supposed to be temporary when I got it two (three?) years ago--since the laptop I got as a gift when I graduated from grad school in 2006. Yultide is always one of those things I toyed with doing, but my creative writing inspiration when it comes to ficathons is... very bad. Er.

I have it tied to an external monitor as the backlight has died on the actual monitor.

...is this difficult to do? The backlight in mine is dying and the laptop itself is fine. Sounds like an alternative, since I really can't afford a new comp right now.

It is not really difficult to do, no; you might have to figure out which of the function keys to hit (I think on my ThinkPad it's F7) to tell the laptop to accept providing output to an external monitor, but other than that it's hooking the two up. I've been using this system for months now, and it's fine, but I really need to be more mobile than this allows.

Alas, the new laptop has a hardware malfunction. So I have to send it in for repairs and/or call the sales department and yell at them. :( Siiiiigh.

Because I'm still in the 21 days since day invoiced frame, I'm opting for getting a brand-new replacement rather than going through the rigmarole of trying to get this one fixed, only to discover they couldn't or didn't do it or whatever. It's still blah, you know? Especially since I'm going to be going on a trip in a couple weeks and hoped to have this all taken care of before then. BLAH.
