{A brown-haired woman with brilliant green eyes, wearing a pink dress under a red bolero jacket can be seen speaking to a very, very angry Togepi.}

...And you should know that it isn't nice to just go around picking fights like that! This poor thing! {She stroked the head of the tiny Pidgey in her arms. There was a small bruise on its face.} You ( Read more... )

That woman thinks she's everyone's mother, aru. She thought I was her son when I arrived here.

And I'm sorry, but there is now way to get back home. Not yet, at least, aru. We're all still trying to figure that out.

Maybe she just misses her children.

It's all right. If we're stuck here, at least it's a beautiful place.

Maybe. I miss my siblings too, but I don't go around claiming everyone as my family, aru.

[The response does surprise him a bit. This is probably the most calm person he's met so far. He smiles a bit.]

That's true, and here we have the Pokemon to help us. Although, this place, Johto, tends to have very strange occurrences from time to time, aru.

{She returns the smile.}

Strange occurrences? Has anything serious happened?

Well, just a few weeks ago, there were these Pokemon called Shedinja floating around all over Johto. Anyone who looked into the hollow on their back ended up having their soul stolen and trapped in some nightmare world, aru. I was among those victims.

Lucky for us that those who were still awake caught those Shedinja and freed us.

B-But, stuff like that doesn't happen often aru! Johto is really peaceful most of the time.

{Such an occurrence deeply alarmed Aerith, though she sighed a breath of relief after he was done speaking.}

I'm glad to hear that you've recovered. It's hard to believe that Pokémon could be so dangerous...

I feel the same way, aru. I guess it just goes to show that we should show some caution around them. However, most of the Pokemon here can't take your soul.

The majority of them are friendly if you raise them right, aru. My Gyarados, Lien-Hua, for example! She's a large sea dragon and yet she's got a gentle heart, aru. [He seems really happy when he talks about her.]

That's really reassuring. I'm sure that Cosmos has a good heart too but...well, I hope I can reach it. {She sounds a bit concerned, though still hopeful.}

It feels like we're parents, doesn't it? {She laughs.} And the Pokémon are our children.

I'm sure with a little discipline, it will come out alright, aru. Or it might mature once it's evolved.

[China chuckles.]

It does. I haven't felt this way since all my siblings grew up, aru.

Ah, I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Wang Yao. [He bows his head.]

What do you mean by 'evolve'?

It's nice to meet you! My name is Aerith Gainsborough. {Aerith smiled in appreciation at his bow.}

I can understand. There are lots of children in the Slums where I'm from and you can't help but watch out for them. I guess it's the same thing here.

Here, when the Pokemon evolve, or undergo evolution, they change in appearance and are able to learn more moves. There are also these stones that can help a Pokemon evolve. So far, I've only heard of the Firestone, the Waterstone, and the Thunderstone, aru.

Yes, there's several children in my country that are either in the slums or have no one else to look after them, but I help look after them sometimes. It's not easy since our country has the largest population in the world, aru.

That sounds amazing! It's sounds almost like growing up and becoming an adult.

That's so nice of you Wang! It's sad how many are in unfortunate situations like that. It isn't even their fault.

Yes, I know. Throughout the years, I've noticed that, usually, when something bad happens, children are the first to suffer the consequences, aru.

Still, there's only so much that I can do as a soldier and guardian for my homeland. I just try to make the most of it, aru.
