Haven't posted in a long while.....I haven't felt the urge....not to say that my life has been all sunflowers and lollipops....just haven't felt the desire to write it all up for the masses. If people really care all that much, inquire at will.....but in the mean time... While I was not working and surfing the IMDB, which, I have become quite found of doing in my days of laziness, I actually found an interesting comment posted - on a board that was supposed to be around Tom Cruise and his sciencetology mo-bob - a dude posted this on Religion..... Found it intriquing as I found The DiVinci Code intriqing......
"Religion is the opiate of the masses"
Probably one of the best things ever said.
All relgions are the same to me. It doesn't matter to me exactly what they believe in, how they differ from the other religions, what their goals are, how much money is involved, or how many people on the planet follow this particular relgion. It's all the same to me. All relgions exist for the same three purposes:
1 - Control
2 - Comfort
3 - A means to explain the unknown
That's it. It has been my personal experience that Christians, Catholics, and Mormons are the worst, especially about "shoving your beliefs down one's throat". And I believe it is not coincidence that those are also the main three religions here in America too. Maybe that's why this country is so ass-backwards. As far as I'm concerned, Tom Cruise is religious, that's it. A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but a thorn by any other name is also just as annoying and troublesome too.
I'm not against spirituality, believing in higher forces and deities, but I am against organized religion. Religion divides people, spirituality does not. Sorry, but organized religion is the primary reason why the human race is so f ucked up right now, and why it will likely stay that way until the End of Days. More people have been killed in the name of God or Gods than for any other reason - this is not an opinion, it's a fact. As George Carlin once said, "Thou shalt try really hard not to kill anyone, unless of course he happens to pray to a different invisible man from the one you pray to."
And let's not forget too, that this is all contingent on "faith", that is rather, having faith in people, not God, because even if you do believe in God and the Bible, you cannot deny that religion has indeed been in the hands of people, human beings, for a very, very long time. Even if God himself wrote the Bible and it's all his stuff, it's been handed down and cared for by people for thousands of years. You cannot tell me that various politicians and hustlers who got their hands on the Good Book over the years didn't decide to do a little rewriting here and there, just to see things their way? When you're taking the Bible at face value, you're not taking the word of God, you're taking the word of people, because that's who has had it for thousands of years - not God, but humans. This means, if you believe the Bible, then you are very, very trusting of humans. I'm not. Sorry, but humans kind of have a track record of being lying back stabbers and untrustworthy. I don't trust my neighbors on my street, I sure as hell am not going to trust the word of old time politicians from yonder. I can count the number of people that I really, really trust on two hands, and all of the puppeteers throughout the ages who have had a hand in writing the various versions of the Bible are not among them.
And at any rate, as far as I'm concerned, anyone, even a great, grand deity who might have been responsible for the creation of this clusterf uck otherwise known as Life, sure as hell isn't worthy of any worship. I wouldn't even bother to thank such a guy, I sure as hell wouldn't bow down to him. Seems to me like his recipie was off a little bit, and if I'm going into eternal torment for NOT believing and worshipping him, then that's the best reason of all why to not do it. If I did ever meet God, the only thing he'd get from me is a middle finger.
