It was a relief to be free of the Compound and back home, even if the cut in her leg left Eden hobbling around. She shouldn't have been putting much weight on it and she tried not to, but she couldn't bear just to sit still all day. It would heal just fine whether or not she was on her feet, as long as she was careful ( Read more... )

Grigg knew that Eden was far from helpless, even when she was recovering from being roughed up by a hurricane. But he was a gentleman and more importantly, her boyfriend which meant that sometimes he had to act on certain impulses. Picking up speed as he entered the hut, he reached out to help her.

"Here, let me help you with those. Or anything really," he said rushing a little bit. It might be a bit overly gallant but from time to time he really couldn't help himself. It might get him scolded later, but it was worth it.

"I'm fine," laughed Eden, resting a hand on the shelf as she tipped her head up to just barely kiss his cheek. It was exhausting, keeping weight off one leg only to tire out the other, but she wasn't about to let this keep her down for long. Having him here helped brighten her up some, though, a pleasant distraction from everything else. "But you can help, yes, thank you. I'm just trying to get things cleaned up some around here. It looks like a hurricane hit."

"I know you are. I just," he bent down pausing mid-thought to give her a gentle kiss as he grabbed hold of what was in her hands, pulling it from her. Ushering her to a chair, he took a step back and surveyed the room.

"Want to help. And sure. You can sit and tell me what you want to do. I can be very handy, just so that you know."

"You want me just to sit around and let you do all the work?" Eden asked, shaking her head at him with a fond smile as she eased down into the chair. She was accustomed to being the one doing everything, through no fault of his, and the idea of being the one to sit back and relax was appealing. "I know you can be handy, but your room's almost as bad as this."

Grigg paused for a moment, thinking it over. What exactly was it that he was after? He could try to deny it, but this was one of the few ready-made opportunities for him to step up to the plate and he wasn't about to let that pitch go by without a swing.

"I think that I would be okay with that, actually," he nodded before bending to pick something else up. "Yeah, I know, but I've always been better at cleaning places that aren't mine. Or just not having stuff to clean."

"Just go all anti-materialistic and dump everything," Eden teased, picking idly at the knee of her jeans. "You don't have to, you know. I've been managing just fine." It wasn't much of a protest, though, with the way she tipped her head to the side and smiled. If he wanted to, she wasn't really going to stop him. She just wanted it said.

"Make a big pile and strike a match?" Grigg offered, shaking his head in amusement. He had already suffered enough for a while due to his personal impact on the environment. He definitely wasn't about to incite anyone else into going off the deep end.

"I'm going to. Sorry."

Eden laughed. "Well, if you insist," she said, mock-serious, "there's no use in apologizing. It's very sweet, thank you." She was quiet a moment, the thought flashing across her mind that it was nice to have someone else do all this for a change, and then she leaned forward, elbows perched on her crossed knees. "Claire wants to meet you."

He meandered around the room, picking things up and putting them in their supposed place, folding other things. He still wasn't stellar at this but there was no use in not trying. It was just the right thing to do and nothing else.

"Does she? It'd be cool to meet her. She's not going to sic Mr Muggles on me is she?" It was better to ask and know in advance though he was certain that there was nothing he could do to fight it beforehand.

"I don't think so," Eden said. "Not unless she decides you're unworthy." She laughed, swaying from side to side in her seat. It was sweet, really, the way Claire seemed so protective of her. Backwards though she thought it was, she appreciated it. It was nice to have some kind of family. "I think because her father's not here, she's decided it's her job to approve my boyfriend."
