Hyukjae worked in a retail store selling sapphire blue clothes for men. Occasionally, there will be stocks for sweet pink, but those were never quite popular with the buyers. Hence, the store owner decided that those items in sweet pink will only be put out for sale every Thursday. And so, every Thursday, Hyukjae will see a petite brunette coming in to purchase some of their designs in sweet pink. The young man would enter with a soft ‘Hello’ and proceed to the sweet pink section with a smile on his face. He would then browse through the new designs and pick out a few of them to try on.

Hyukjae had the habit of glancing at him from time to time while serving other customers, hoping the man would ask for help. Unfortunately for him, the youthful man had never required any assistance, so Hyukjae could only stare at him from afar silently.

However, there was once when a checkered shirt in sweet pink and white did not have the young man’s size on display, and with a tentative smile, he had called Hyukjae over and asked him about the stock availability. Upon hearing the man’s soft melodic voice, he was sure there was nothing else quite like it at all. It had a gentle tint to it, and had sounded - unsurprisingly - rather child-like.

That day, like every other Thursdays, the petite man entered the store and proceeded to the sweet pink section. Hyukjae followed him with his eyes as he fumbled with adjusting the sapphire blue jacket he held in his hands. His colleague (and best friend), who was standing beside him, nudged him with a teasing grin.

“You still have a crush on that guy? Aren’t you afraid he might be already taken?”

Hyukjae narrowed his eyes at him before pouting in annoyance, “You don’t have to rub it in, Hae. And not so loud! He could hear!”

Donghae rolled his eyes, “He’s standing at the sweet pink section, Hyukkie. That’s like, several feet away. He won’t be able to hear us. Anyway, what are you going to do about it? It’s been three months since you’ve developed such a crush on him.”

With a sigh, the older man put away the jacket he was holding and focused his attention to the pile of shirts beside it. “I don’t know, Hae. He may not like guys that way, and-“

“Excuse me, do you have this in size M?” A gentle voice interrupted Hyukjae midsentence.

Hyukjae stared at the man in horror before scowling at Donghae who looked like he was about to fall over in laughter. He shot a pointed look at him as the younger man sniggered and scampered away. ‘That stupid fish,’ Hyukjae thought inwardly just as the brunette raised his question again.

He jumped a little at how the voice was so close to him, totally forgetting that he wasn’t alone to begin with. When he looked at the shorter man next to him, he noticed how the other was trying to hold in his laughter and was forcing a blank look over his features. He flushed at the knowledge that his crush had noticed his dorky ways.

“So?” The brunette prompted after a short while.

“Huh?”

“Do you have this in size M?” The man queried, an eyebrow raised at Hyukjae’s blankness.

“Oh! Oh, yes we do, hang on, I’ll go and take it,” Hyukjae replied, hurrying over to the storeroom and pulling out the requested size.

“Here you go,” He said with a gummy smile as he handed out the neatly folded shirt.

“Thanks,” the other said, flashing his own adorable smile at Hyukjae.

Hyukjae beamed inwardly, forcing himself to hide the happiness he obviously felt. ‘I wonder what’s his name...’ He thought to himself, shaking his head mentally at all the unnecessary feelings he was having.

“Sungmin,” the young man said suddenly.

Hyukjae looked at him in surprise, “What?”

“My name is Sungmin,”

He stared at him in confusion, “Huh?”

Sungmin smirked knowingly, “You said you wondered what my name was, so I told you. And your name is...?”

Hyukjae cursed himself inwardly at having said his own thoughts out loud. With a sheepish smile, he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly, “It’s Hyukjae.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Hyukkie. Thanks for your help! I’ll go over to the cashier now...” Sungmin trailed off, giving another soft smile at him before he made his way towards the cashier.

“Wait!”

Sungmin cocked his head to a side as he turned around, “Yes?”

Before he could help himself, Hyukjae blurted, “Are you free later? Would you like to have coffee with me after my shift ends?”

The smaller man looked surprised for a moment as realization dawned on him. Then, he nodded slowly, “Sure. You can call me later.”

Sungmin fished out a name card and passed it to Hyukjae with a wink. “Don’t forget!” He teased playfully, to which Hyukjae blushed a bright red in return.

(“All that worry for nothing,” Donghae deadpanned after Hyukjae told him ecstatically about the date a few hours later.

His best friend rolled his eyes, “Shut up, Hae. You’re just jealous.”)
