To hear about my weekend in Mexico,
Took Friday off work and hopped in the car and drove to Mexico. The ride was fun, yet uneventful until we were heading south on the I-85 towards the border and came upon the “loose gravel” signs. Being the cautious (ha!) driver that I am - and much to the chagrin of the drivers behind me - I slowed down from my usual 85 mph to a slow speed of about 70 mph. Long story short, I ended up with 3 chips in my windshield and one very long CRACK. All from a stretch of about 30 miles of “loose gravel,” on this side of the border, no less.
We got to the house in Las Conchas (Puerto Penasco) around 4 or 5 and it was BEAUTIFUL. I took a nice nap, had some BBQ veggie dogs for dinner and played a long round of “Scene It” (FYI - if you want to come close to winning, NEVER play this game with Ziggy & Erika) and retired to bed. Spent all of Saturday on the beach. The weather was perfect - not too hot, just warm enough. I took another nap in the late afternoon, had more BBQ and headed into “town” for the celebration of ms. Erika’s birthday! We basically just sat back and made fun of all the young kids who went there to drink, and we even came up with nick names for some of the more colorful characters: “Drunk Girl,” “PE Shorts dude,” “Other drunk girl,” “White skirt girls,” etc etc. and watched as the college drama ensued. Slept in Sunday morning and packed leisurely before heading back to the border. Also of note is the young lady we passed who was standing on the side of the road in front of a car, holding a “Se vende” sign. Literally, she was DANCING in daisy dukes in front of this POS car, trying to sell it! Emotions were conflicting - I had to laugh but felt really sorry for her at the same time. We tried to get pictures but by the time we got the camera out she took a break from shaking her booty.
And I ruined my digital camera. Saturday morning during low tide I went walking along the rocks looking at shells and my camera strap just slipped off my wrist and fell into a puddle. RIP - it was a great camera for the 7 months I had it.
I got some sunburn even though I applied sunscreen, but its already starting to fade. And I’m more tan than I’ve ever been in my life!
to read about my latest and greatest WEDDING DRAMA
So I picked up my wedding dress from the dress maker on Thursday night. They just handed it to me and said “here you go” and walked away. Dumbfounded, I took the dress to my car and went on with my evening’s itinerary. Later that night I decided to try it on, feeling very excited because hey - I paid a LOT of money for this dress with the hopes of it being PERFECT. But it wasn’t perfect. Not even close! The sash slides down and there are no mechanisms for keeping it in place, like a loop or a snap or even velcro. Of course it’s going to slide, it’s satin! And the sleeves are a bit awkward as well. They were supposed be ¾ length but they’re a bit shorter and hit at the base of my elbow so that when I bend my arms the fabric bunches up above the elbow and will probably wrinkle. Also, the beloved cowl neck sits very awkwardly - not sure if it’s the craftsmanship or the way of the design - but it needs some help. The seams on the boobage area dart out and resemble old school Madonna in her cone era.
So the real question is: Do I call these people and ask them to make it right (they said any additional fittings/alterations would be an extra limb, I mean charge), or do I run to another tailor and ask them to fix it ASAP??? I don’t feel like I’ve got the gumption to become Bridezilla and complain. I don’t even think I trust them to “fix” it anyhow. I am so spent right now that I feel like I can’t deal with this. But I HAVE to. And NOW. Argh.
Enough with the bitching, right? Right. On a lighter note, the kitties have taken quite nicely to David and the new apartment. Abby, who hid the entire time I was at Nicole’s, is more social than she’s been in a while and even slept with David the other night. He’s taken to defending her against Toby who I know doesn’t mean any harm. He’s just bored and wants to play. Such is the way of the wild kingdom I suppose.
Tonight: Pick up my last load of stuff I left at Nicole’s and then do some master CD importing for the iPod. Also need to see if I can get the latest Grey’s Anatomy from iTunes since we don’t get any channels above 10 in the apt.
