Holy shit, Gotham remains a delight.
- THE MURDER CHILDREN. ACTUAL CHILDREN EDWARD AND OSWALD. BEING SO PETTY AND SNIPING AND WORKING TOGETHER EVEN IF THEY LOVEHATE EACH OTHER. Like, they were just so hilarious hating each other's guts, and yet, you could still feel for them. Maybe not enough -- I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that they couldn't have had a moment where they reminsice and admit that they have missed each other, and if things hadn't turned out this way, they could have had so much fun.
- And they clearly had a lot of fun in the hour of the breakout, killing people and getting blood on their face. But also just getting on each other's nerves -- I still can't believe Edward "boops" Oswald's head to test that he's real, not a hallucination, (not that Oswald would know that), and then insists he's the Riddler now, and Oswald decides to repeat his name like a thousand times. They really were, in the best sense of the world, ridiculous.
- They made me laugh so much. When they came up with the "agreement", I couldn't stop smiling. IT'S A TERRIFIC AND DUMB TROPE, AND OF COURSE THEY'D EMPLOY IT. Also, the OST was wonderfully reminiscent of a tango that it was just perfect.
- I don't know why I feel so positive about them, but my last impression was, like, yeah, they're going to be okay. They'll figure something out. They're on their way, even if they don't know it yet.
- Also! Selina and Alfred gave me such joy this episode. Like, they've had such a difficult friendship and I know they don't like each other, but I like them not liking each other, but will always team up when it comes to Bruce Wayne. Also Alfred calling Bruce his boy, my heart died. The show has done such a beautiful job with Bruce and Alfred's friendship, and how much they love each other. ALSO ALFRED STRAIGHT UP JUST RAMMING A KNIFE IN KATHERYN'S HAND WAS PLAIN BADASS AND I DIDN'T EXPECT IT AT ALL.
- I am sad Katheryn is dead, though. I'll miss her. I just really enjoyed her presence and her air of cold mystery. I knew she was going to die, but oh, she was so fun to watch. (I'm still curious whether someone is going to say Isabella was a clone and I was hoping it would be her, but perhaps Hugo Strange might say something now???)
- I love Jim Gordon a lot. Like, One of the best things about Gotham is that it's basically the Jim Gordon and his Awful Terrible Ruined Friendships Show -- most of them, in one way or another, go so sour, and with Nathanial Barnes, it's no different. But I still love seeing Jim stick to a semblence of his moral code despite it all. (Even if, mind you, he's not very good at sticking to a moral code.)
- I really like Jervis Tetch. While I'm not entirely convinced that his conversation with Lee Thompkins should have worked, he is very good at playing with people's emotions, and it's likely that the Alice Tetch virus -- diluted because of Mario? -- was also at play, Lee's fate is sealed at the end, and I simply cannot wait. Will they kill Lee off or will there be a cure? Who can say?
- Mostly I'm extremely excited for Fish Mooney's return!!!!
I don't find myself wanting to say much at Doctor Who's latest episode, but I liked it, and thought that this definitely had the best Nardole interaction to date. It felt a bit like an Arrow episode, truthfully, flashing back and forth between past and present, only I found this explanation really satisfying -- because of course who else would it be -- whereas Arrow's flashbacks tend to leave me bored and you have to wait for them to build up to feel the payoff.
