When someone is asked if they were stranded on a deserted island, what one item would they want... why doesn't anyone ever choose 'a boat'?

The ocean is an awful big place. There's no guarantee that I could find my way home if I had a boat. In that case, why risk dying horribly at sea?

Ah, but if it is a gaurantee you want..Well, there are no guarantees.

Certain death, or uncertain survival? One who risks nothing cannot gain something in return.

No, but it's a lot closer to a guarantee that I would die comfortable with gold and carpets than get home.

Don't get me wrong. I've done the uncertain survival thing and that's how I wound up here. Dying once is all this guy needs to know his course.

That's a proverb I know a little too much about, trust me.
