Hey guys sorry nufin's been posted in ages but I've been at school camp... sorry forgot to tell yaz. Kept a camp journal so here goes!
The Diary of a thoroughly bored Year 11 student…..
Friday, 24th June, 2005
Well this morning I set of to camp. Got to school around 8:25, to find that we had to wait till around 9:15 for Daniel Kam’s camp permission form to arrive. So, greatly annoyed and increasingly sleepy we set of around 9:30. By 11 we reached Albion Park, and had lunch/morning tea at McDonalds which was on the whole fairly uneventful (except of Ipek spilling her chocolate fudge all over her brand-new Ugg boots). From there we went to the Kiama Blowhole, where after a few pictures it proceeded to rain heavily so we all retreated to the shelter of our bus - only to realise that Andrew Poyitt was nowhere to be seen! After getting thoroughly soaked and cold, it was discovered that he was under an umbrella taking photos at the other end of the Blowhole! Eventually our angry messages were conveyed to him and Ian got the keys to return us to the relative warmth of our vehicle. Andrew then proceeded to turn the heaters up in the bus so that we were pretty much now either soaking wet or thoroughly fried. After this, we went to the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Museum at Nowra, which was a fair improvement from the days’ previous activities. The museum had been refurbished since my previous visit, and lots of random photos were taken, especially with Mark Tudor and John Loder attempting to kiss a mannequin. I believe it would have been thoroughly traumatised if it were human! David actually bought an inflatable Qantas jet, for the highly inflated price of $11.95, and has proceeded to hang it from the light fitting of our room. Altan and I are currently conniving to determine how we can pop it without him noticing. From the museum it was a fairly uneventful trip to the Wairo, where we realised that almost no setting up had been completed by the Advance Party whatsoever since they had barely arrived 4 hours before us. So, after John’s prediction of an hour of sunlight remaining at 4:30, we were sent off in teams to deliver luggage, tables and other infrastructural needs to their respective areas. By 5 it was thoroughly dark, and Altan and I decided to hide behind trees in the forest and scare members of the luggage train. We successfully frightened Daniel Kam. Later that day an event occurred which will forever remain etched in our memory. We were standing behind the Cadbury trailer awaiting fresh supplies to deliver. As we stood there, Aunt Bev arrived, and proceeded to attempt to climb into the trailer, only to get stuck hanging on to 2 handrails exclaiming “My leg is stuck!” It was absolutely the funniest sight to ever behold in all my days of camping. We are cacking about it to this day. After dinner we had an introduction to our study then watched a film version of Oscar Wilde’s ‘Importance of Being Earnest’ which was definitely funnier than I had seen before. We returned to our cabins around 11:30, and slept around 12:30 after several games of snooker and showers.

This morning I awoke early to begin my journal. We had breakfast in the upper floor of 62 Dolphin Pt, with the clouds starting to clear over the ocean. Our arrangement here is pretty much as good as it can get, with 7 guys (me, David, Altan, Rickystan, Ian, Sung and David Jun) with Andrew, Murray and Daniel Ridley. The views this morning over the ocean were quite simply beautiful. Breakfast was a simple affair, before we headed off to the study for the morning. We had maths and English lessons before lunch, where some of us conspired a plan to convince the Koreans in our cabin that Altan was a Jewish Turk, which is currently extremely successful. Having quoted some ‘Talmudic laws’ we proceeded to expound that the results of eating unclean lettuce at lunch would require the sacrifice of 2 turtledoves and a partridge in a pear tree. Since these must be offered before the Sabbath and are fairly hard to come by, thus Altan refused to eat lettuce. We then went to the Milton-Ulladulla Stadium, where we played football. I was on a pretty good team, with Murray, Uncle Ian, Rickystan and Shahir, and we made it all the way to the final before I was totalled by Uncle Jon and we lost 4-2. We then went back to Wairo for afternoon tea and 2 lessons - chemistry and Modern History. Chemistry was fine, Mod History was the worst ever. We were stuck in a dimly-lit room, where we all refused to read to maintain our eyesight so were subsequently stuck with Dianne rambling for what seemed like an eternity but was in reality just 20mins (because we had dawdled all the way there). Then we returned for dinner, which was an extremely hilarious and unprecedented affair, with a possum turning up (which we convinced the Koreans was a Nazi spy sent to discover Jewish immigrants) and various unsavoury remarks about Kim Jong Il and a certain up camera angle to Goliath that had been in the study movie. We then have now returned to 62 and all the Yr11 boys are completing a 1.5hr study hall before most likely moving downstairs to play pool. Oh yes Aunty Bev also had another incident today, almost slipping on the metal ramp up to the truck in the rain. We’ve decided that she’s rather accident prone.

The first best thing of today was the fact that being Sunday, we got an extra hours sleep. The next best thing was the fact that there would be no studying today!! The study began at 10am, finishing around 11:30. After that we had a service, with Phil and Jon speaking and Communion. After morning tea, we headed back to our cabins before returning for lunch. After lunch we headed straight to the basketball stadium, where we had an Olympic-esque group competition. First was a game called ‘Golden Child’ which our group (group 4) won. Next, we played netball, which our team played miserably and frequent derogatory and witty comments about the game were evident. Our team failed miserably at this game, but before the final we had a tug-of-war competition, in which we failed miserably as well. After her team won the final, Nathan, Matthew, David and I went and bowed before Carolyn, calling her the master and requesting to be her pupils. After morning tea, came Redeemer Idol. We were played a song by the ‘Superchicks’ and forced in groups to create a dancing routine in 20mins based on 4 different criteria. The results were utterly horrendous. Having watched myself on Altan’s video I’m pretty much totally convinced that my dancing skills are purely and utterly imaginary. At least it was fun thought. Our team came equal second, but lost in the end. Andrew, Phil and Brenda were the judges. Suzanna made the comment that Andrew could really be ‘Dicko’ and in the end he REALLY was. Somehow he related all the dancing to Worldview and made some really sarcastic and sadistic remarks about our obvious talents (including our booty shaking). Overall it was a pretty fun day, and I really need to get people’s photos of it!!! After that that night we were pretty much exhausted, and after dinner we watched the movie U-571, about how the German Enigma code machine was finally cracked during WWII. It was an alright movie, and I particularly liked their portrayal of the depth-charging but the plot was monotonous and I never really felt excited by the movie. We went to bed pretty late that night, preferring instead to play some pool and do some reading.
Monday, 27th June 2005
We were back to a normal timetable today, with 8am breakfast and a 9am study. After morning tea we went straight into classes, with English and Maths. In English we read Henry V, and watched the beginning of Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V.
• Lunch - French toast
• Afternoon - tennis, sweeping court because of rain, David and I beat Murray and Josiah 6-4.
• Physics, Economics and History - Diane went on and on again, didn’t watch much of movie because of that. In laundry - cramped and cold.
• Dinner - had lasagne and spaghetti and lamb roast
• Extension English during study hall - finished ‘Princess Bride.’
Tuesday, 28th June 2005
• Woke early morning to begin breakfast preparations, Andrew and Ian and Ricky late back from early morning run
• Off to study - Phil spoke from Rom12 - talking about loving even your enemies like David, and returning evil with good.
• Morning lessons - chemistry and Mod history - both in laundry.
• Lunch - buns with roast beef, ham, lettuce and beetroot.
• Recreation - to the aquatic centre, Andrew decided to go to the petrol station on the way and refit the entire freekin car.
• Aquatic centre - people played water polo, went swimming or played Frisbee. The guys hit this bald guy swimming in the pool twice and he took the Frisbee - then read the words on it (Jesus makes my light shine!) and proceeded to fold the Frisbee in half!! We were so angry we wanted to snap him except we remembered what we’d learnt in the study before. So we talked to Uncle Ian, then told him we’d put it away so he gave it back. It’s not that badly damaged, but we were still pissed at that bald idiot. Before we left, Ken Ma kindly told him that Jesus still loved him! The best thing about not swimming was sitting doing work in the cafeteria, with the radio blasting and finally being able to hear good music again, like Ciara, B.E.P. and Rob Thomas. Around 3 we left back for Wairo to have afternoon tea and then continued with afternoon lessons - Economics, Physics and Maths. Dinner was a good affair, with steak, bangers and mash, bacon and peas. For dessert we had Trumpets which I haven’t had in ages and tasted so good. Now we’re back at study hall again (till 10:45) attempting to do work and finish this journal.

I woke up this morning to Murray yelling ‘Wake up, wake up - breakfast in 15mins!” without a shirt on. It was extremely scary. After starting to prepare breakfast, I realised that we had only the plastic ‘cheese’ left, and thus is wasn’t as good as normal. After we rushed into the studies, Phil has been resurrecting old childhood Christian songs, so today we sang ‘If I were a butterfly.’ He spoke about how we’re called by God not to be reclusive but to be part of the world. We did a lot of Scripture reading today which was good. Now I have economics then English before lunch. For lunch we had ‘fish’ cakes with bread, but it tasted more like mash potato coated with flour and a little piece of crap. We went shopping during the recreation time during the afternoon, and the girls were particularly vocal about the one hour restriction on the time spent. After going to the CD shop and listening to random singles (and leaving once they started playing the uncensored version of ‘Hollerback Girl’) we went round looking at surf shops (which were pretty sad), bookshops (where I bought my Tom Clancy book) and video stores (where Jon Bailey accidentally lead his group into the adult section). After afternoon tea we had Modern History (where we finally finished our video after Diane stopped yacking), Physics (where Esther finally gave her 27min edited version of her physics presentation, using almost half of my battery and meaning I had to constantly slap Ken Ma to keep him awake) and then chemistry where we successfully distracted Jenelle for almost a third of the lesson discussing the uses of ammonia. Dinner was a good affair, with beef stroganoff and rice, and ice cream for dessert (which Altan had with crushed nuts!!). Now’s study hall, and Andrew’s going to kill me if he sees me doing this so I’m going to go - he’s in a bad mood after killing Daniel and Stephen for I-don’t-know-what but I’ll find out later.
Thursday, 30 June 2005
• Morning - got woken up early because we thought Andrew and the rest were running early but they were late so we were deprived of sleep.
• Study - end of the story of David as king of Judah, learnt about the importance of choices, and how David had a good spirit and praised Saul after his death despite Saul’s attempts to kill him.
• Found out that Mark Tudor had been sent home last night after been caught shoplifting during the yesterday afternoon’s shopping - it was a big blow and we were all thoroughly surprised and shocked.
• Maths and English lessons - worked on maths assignment, watched Branagh.
• Lunch - ham and stuff.
• Stadium - played basketball, our team actually won!! It was incredible, but we had Daniel Ridley so it was pretty good. Still can’t believe it.
• Afternoon - had physics, chemistry (got 99% for my EXAM!!!!) and R.E. It was like gale force winds and rain all afternoon, even now while I’m studying I can hear the wind howling and the rain pouring.
• Dinner - had fried rice and other finger food, fruit salad with chocolate fudge.
Friday, 1 July 2005
• Morning - had special breakfast this morning, with grilled ham and scrambled egg and cheese sandwiches and toast. Finished study today, with David becoming King of Judah at Hebron. Very interesting study, probably the best to date. Learnt a lot especially about leadership and friendship from the lives of David and Jonathan.
• Study - had 3 40min periods instead of 2 hour periods to maximise the time spent studying. Since there was actually sun today (enough to wear t-shirt and shorts, since we prayed for sun last night!) we would be going to Mollymook beach for the afternoon.
• Lunch - at Mollymook Beach, had burgers but more interested in playing on the beach than eating.
• Afternoon - played some football, but gave up after not getting any of the ball for like 10mins. Our team really sucked at Frisbee, losing like 10-3. After that we just mucked around, Nathan, Shea and I went for a run down the beach and back, and played some volleyball. Eventually got Altan to get some sand on him after tackling him, and Ari shoulder charged me until I felt incapacitated. It was the best afternoon spent all week, in the sun and on the beach. We took a whole stack of photos, including an embarrassing one David took of me attempting to pose. Had some good time to chat with people. While we were playing Frisbee, a black bulldog started attacking the Frisbee, chasing whoever had it, eventually getting it twice before we tackled it and got it back. Then two other dogs came as well, and worked as a team attacking the other dog. It was pretty scary, as they were hounding whoever had the Frisbee, and Mel almost got attacked. Eventually, Stuart stole the Frisbee and shoved it under his shirt and they lost interest, running off to the other end of the beach. Later, Altan said he saw it get attacked, the other two dogs ganging up on the bulldog and biting it till it had masses of blood running down its leg and from its face. When I went to the bathroom I saw it limping around and I got freaked and ran when I saw it coming towards me. After a break we went straight into lessons, with history and Christian worldview. In the morning we had physics - AND I GOT 99% for my exam!!!! The same mark as chemistry, I’m so happy!! Was so stoked after, seriously. It’s so good, God’s always been good to me. For dinner we had KFC, and then watched Sister Act 2, which was remarkably funny for the 4th time, before returning to Dolphin Point to pack and then slept around 12:30.
Saturday, 2 July 2005
Got woken up early this morning with a kinda nightmare, which happened to end just as I was s’posed to wake up. Nothing fancy for breakfast this morning, just Coco-pops and some of David’s instant noodles. Then it was into pack up and cleaning mode. Outside, there were these cool dogs from across the street that were really friendly, and the Collie really liked to chase sticks so I played with them for quite awhile. The other dog kept trying to eat the sticks though, it was really annoying. I had a lot of fun, it was interesting how some of the simplest things can be the most enjoyable. We headed for Wairo around 10:30, after the house had been cleaned (which actually included Altan doing some work like drying after the mopping) and helped pack up the Games Room at Wairo. The hardest bit was moving all the arcade games back into position, as they took about 6 guys to lift and position. There were about 8 of them, and afterwards I felt as if I’d had enough lifting for a week. After having a good morning tea, we packed up and headed home around 12:30, arriving at Albion Park McDonalds in what seemed like record time around 2pm for lunch. Had a burger happy meal and lean beef burger. Listening to David’s UNITED CD in the bus at the moment, which is majorly cool. Should be back in around an hour and a half, so I’ll sign off now. This had been a really good camp, probably the best so far. Adieu.
