Advent 2024 - Day 24

Dec 24, 2024 18:43

Also, Christmas Eve this year. I hope you all are having a peaceful, lovely evening.

We celebrated around 4pm... if you can call it a celebration. It was modest: I've made punch - with apple juice instead of wine, but with the same spice mix. It was very yummy, Mum very much approved. I draped my cookies on two large plates and put the punch on a warmer that operates with a small tea light, as well as lit all candles on the Advent wreath - it was very cosy. Like this:

As for cooking, I made stuffed chicken joints baked in the oven and red cabbage with apples and raisins as a side dish. I abandoned the idea of Semmelknödel, as the stuffing was basically made of days-old rolls, an egg, some onions and parsley, so why make even more bread-based dishes?

Later on my cousin called and indicated that he and his second wife would visit us somewhen between Christmas and New Year's Eve. I'm very glad for Mum's sake; it's so rare than anyone but H (who's my cousin's first, now ex-wife) remembers that she's still with us, the very last of her generation.

So, now the day is almost over again. I'm currently playing Christmas tunes on YouTube while writing this. We'll watch the Great Christmas Bake-Off later, and Mum probably attend midnight Mass via telly, so that we can sleep in tomorrow.

Have a happy, blessed Christmas, all of you!

Update: H. has just called us on Viber. Her daughter (who happens to be my goddaughter), her son-in-law and the kiddies, Theo and little Emma were also present. Mum was on cloud nine. :)
