My icon is so appropriate right now. Do you mind very mild spoilers without a cut?

I saw TMNT on Friday. It...it kinda hurt. I mean, i don't think the movie knew who to play to--fans or noobz. It included some minor elements we're familiar with in the previous films (corny, corny jokes being the main one) but mostly seemed to take from the new animated series. In spite of that, i swear to god they opened the movie with a narration to EXPLAIN their backstory. WTF are you doing watching this movie if you don't know squat about TMNT? They even have the nerve to introduce every turtle with a freeze-frame and their names below them.

The animation--which i thought i'd become accustomed to with all the commercials--sucked. The turtles themselves were pretty good and detailed, but the human design was way too stylized and smooth. It oddly reminded me of Veggietales. So the visual and the jokes all screamed "MADE FOR 10YR OLDS" (i seriously only chuckled once and half-smiled a handful of times), but the plot itself seemed a tad more complex and the fight scenes a bit darker. Those maybe screamed...13yr olds. Which means, folks, you've left nothing for the adults. Ya know, the part of the audience who were the turtles' first fans and may see this out of nostalgia? Yeah, those people.

So, i'm disappointed. If you showed your own kid the original movies then showed them this one, i'm positive they'd ask you to get your money back. It's cute and the family dynamics we love so much are strong. The individual relationships we remember are played upon nicely. But i just can't help but feel like it could've been SO much more. There wasn't even a good villain. The only great obstacle to overcome was Leo's angst and Raph's temper, but don't they do that every damn day? To show you how truly unsatisfying this movie was, i'll leave you with this:

THEY DIDN'T EVEN REMAKE THE THEME SONG!
