Blind Man Sees

It’s a bright spring afternoon.
Children are playing
Their laughter echoes among the trees.
The aroma of fresh hot dogs encompasses the park.
A blind man sits alone at a bench.
His only companion is a cane, which he holds between his frail hands
And the grin across his wrinkled face.
A young man in a suit walks by.
He sees the blind man and takes a seat beside him.
“Why smile old man, when there is so much to be distressed about?”
“What do you mean?” the blind man asks.
The young man looks over to him.
His eyes are glazed over with tears.
“Every day a child cries.
Every day a rose dies.
Every day a flame dwindles.
Every day a home is broken.
Every day a life is taken.
Every day the sun sets.
Every day we live with regrets.
Every day hope is lost.
Every day we sink into darkness.
Can you say that this is something to smile about?”
The blind man is silent.
“Say you nothing old man?”
“The answer is simple my son. Open your eyes!
Every day a child smiles.
Every day a rose blooms.
Every day a flame is rekindled.
Every day a home is built.
Every day a life is saved.
Every day the sun rises.
Every day we take a risk.
Every day hope is found.
Every day we find the light.
Why darken the dark with a frown,
When you can brighten it with a smile?
You not need vision to see this….”
“Then how old man?
How can I see the light in the darkness?”
“That is simple.
All you need to do my son…. is open your eyes.”
