March 26, 2009

Italicized parts in parentheses are mun notes. Please feel free to combine OOC and IC comments for this entry.

Part 1: The Basics

1. What is your full name?
- Raine Sage

2. Where and when were you born?
- In Heimdall, the elven village in Tethe'alla.

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
- My father's name was Kloitz. I barely remember anything about him, but I am under the impression he was ... idealistic. As well as tolerant, to put up with our situation for so long.
- My mother is Virginia. My memory of her is certainly clearer than that of my father, though it conflicts with the way I know she is now, dwelling in the past. I still can't forgive her, even knowing what she's done. Perhaps someday we may both be able to accept things for what they are, though if she can't accept my existence, then what is there?

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
- I have one brother. His name is Genis; I've raised him for all his life. He is very bright, though has the occasion of being too smart for his own good. It's difficult not to worry about him, especially with him being here, but ... he's a good boy. He's eager, and helpful, and... stubborn, but he's quick to amend his ways soon enough.

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
- In house number forty-two. It's one of the larger, well-laid out houses here, with only a singular floor and four rooms. It was Albert who invited me to live with him. He can often be very distant, even when he's being supportive. The other occupant is my brother, Genis. ... Albert also has an owl named Rune, and a horse named Astrid, who lives in the stable outside.

6. What is your occupation?
- Teacher. (Also healer. And running herself ragged keeping up with Luceti.)

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

- My hair is silver, and one of my more defining traits. It's just around my shoulders, though I intend to trim it soon. Light blue eyes. Average height, 5'5. Slender. My clothing is usually plain, though I often wear a loose distinctive robe over them. Half-elf. (What she won't say: "sallow, prone to getting sick, somewhat thin (but recovering). Occasional dark circles under the eyes. Aside from that she is still very pretty, and would be moreso if she just took care of herself")

8. To which social class do you belong?
- The social classes in Sylvarant were nothing like the ones established in Tethe'alla. I was only a school teacher in a small village. While it was a better quality of life than some would have achieved elsewhere, it's still working class.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
- No. (She just has a tendency to get over-stressed and exhausted, and takes longer to recover from illness than it should.)

10. Are you right- or left-handed?
- I mostly do everything right-handed. When I was younger, I had a preference for my left.

11. What does your voice sound like?
- It's very calm, subtle. I suppose it has a higher pitch than one would expect, especially when I'm ... excited.

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
- It depends on my mood. Of late, "ridiculous" comes to mind. "I see." "It's nothing." "I'm fine."

13. What do you have in your pockets?
- The unicorn horn. A pen, maybe. Some folded pieces of paper.

14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
- As much as I am loft to put this here, my ... excitement over archeology probably would fit best here. Genis and the others like to call it my "ruin mode" and some have even called me a maniac about them... honestly, they're all just exaggerating. Aside from that, I'm... very stubborn. I'll admit I have quite a few bad habits that I'm working on correcting, but it can be ... difficult, and trying for others, especially when I am unable to see the issue.

Part 2: Growing Up

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
- My childhood ended as soon as my mother abandoned us, when I was eleven years old. I can't recall much about it.

16. What is your earliest memory?
- All of them are very vague. Being in Heimdall felt very nostalgic. The most specific memory I have from my childhood is falling off of that boat while we were on the run.

17. How much schooling have you had?
- ... None, actually. I was naturally gifted and did most of my studying on my own.

18. Did you enjoy school?
- I would have, if I had been able to attend normally.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
- I taught myself by studying various books that seemed interesting. I had an innate talent for magic, which took some time to cultivate. I've also studied healing for a while.

20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
- My mot-- no, not really. Like I already told you, I don't remember my childhood, and from a certain point onward, I had to raise myself. There was no one for me to actually look up to.

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
- I barely remember my father. Mother was the one I remember the most of, and yet all the glimpses that I get of her are vastly different. She was an important figure in my life; having her abandon me was... difficult to deal with. Genis and I have each other. We get along, as much as siblings do, though I suppose in a sense, I'm the only mother he's ever really known.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
- ... I don't remember.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
- ... studying. I vaguely recall some art activities, as well.

24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
- I always felt the need to be responsible, I'm sure. I was young, so my curiosity on matters was likely even more ... apparent than it is right now. Asking questions, turning to books for answers. More ... innocent, I suppose, and very nervous, when mother wasn't around. At least... that's what it seems to be.

25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
- I never really had the opportunity to meet children my own age, and by the time I had the chance, I had to become an adult. So no, I never had any friends. I suppose my popularity increased somehow as I grew older.

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
- It was a long time ago, so it doesn't matter.

27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
- It's not anyone's business whether I am or not.

28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
- A lot of my ... development really only stems from after my abandonment, as I've said. I don't believe that I would be the person I am today had those circumstances never had happened. Though I don't believe that has too much of a bearing on what I do now. If anything, influences have come in the more recent years. Genis's best friend Lloyd has had an impact on me, and I'm certain it's because of the changes that were set in motion by his influence that leads me to continue in my pursuits.

Part 3: Past Influences

29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
- There are many things that have happened to me that have had different forms of ramifications. Finding Iselia and being able to teach there, with Genis, for all those years. That was important.

30. Who has had the most influence on you?
- Perhaps Mo Lloyd, actually.

31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
- Helping save the worlds. Curing previously uncurable diseases and conditions.

32. What is your greatest regret?
- Not being able to protect Genis from this place.

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
- That would of course depend on what definition of the word is being used. While some of my actions may be defined as questionable, they certainly don't fall into an "evil" category.

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
- No.

35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
- Genis being taken. Falling into that freezing water and nearly dying. (Getting ill from a plague in the village and actually dying.)

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
- That entire "personality change" experiment. Especially my conversations with certain people, and actions... I don't want to think about it. Please.

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
- There was a time when I would have said that I would have changed things, if I had the power. After speaking to Lloyd about the idea once... he made me realize that changing the past would not make things right. So no, I wouldn't change anything.

38. What is your best memory?
- ... Genis being brought back to the village. It had been nearly a year since I had last seen him.

39. What is your worst memory?
- Those three events I listed earlier. I see no need to repeat myself.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
- I'm realistic. Though I suppose for most people, that would fall under "pessimistic". Unless someone does see the optimism in what I'm trying to accomplish.

41. What is your greatest fear?
- Becoming... completely helpless, with no hope of recovery. Losing my brother.

42. What are your religious views?
- Religion is not something I have any particular ties to. While I can understand the importance of it to the world, it does not tie me to it. Especially in light of certain circumstances.

43. What are your political views?
- I'd rather not get involved if I can help it. (The council doesn't count. Really.)

44. What are your views on sex?
- It's a private matter between consenting adults.

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
- Sometimes a situation will present itself in which decisions must be made for the sake of survival.

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
- Sacrificing lives and distorting the entire world to serve their own desires.

47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
- Soul mates, no. True love is simply one of many different types in the world. Not everyone precisely finds it, or ever will.

48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
- Accomplishing the goals that one sets for themselves.

49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
- It's not so much not being honest as not being... open. I'm very private. (And constantly lies about her state of mental and physical health, or doesn't state her opinion openly.)

50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
- I try my best to be as fair as possible, considering that I'm used to being on the wrong side of prejudice. It would be hypocritical to say that I've never judged anyone at all, but I'd like to think that we're all capable of adapting in some way.

51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
- I suppose it all comes down in the end to willpower, and what's at stake. There are plenty of things I could say I wouldn't wish to do -- but you never know when you may find yourself in a situation that requires you to reorganize your system of thought.

52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
- Genis. And... depending on the situation, I would be willing to sacrifice myself should it mean leading a path for others to build a better world.

Part 5: Relationships With Others

53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
- It's difficult to say. I tend to look out for others, and take responsibility for them. Though few really do get to know my own personal thoughts of them, even as time goes on.

54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
- Genis, and I think the why should be obvious at this point.

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
- It's hard to say. Everyone gets respect for different reasons. One shouldn't be particularly placed higher than the other due to events. Lloyd for following his instinct and leading the world towards a once-seeming impossible change. Colette for undergoing her trials with nothing less than a smile on her face, even knowing what waited for her at the end. Regal for his responsibilities. The list goes on.

56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
- Some would say that the group that I traveled with to help change Tethe'alla and Sylvarant would qualify as my friends. It's true; they are certainly dear enough to me.

57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
- No, I do not.

58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
- No, I have not. -- Unless you mean that ridiculous experiment which manipulated my emotions.

59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
- ... Security. Honesty. Intelligence. Good looks. Like-mindedness.

60. How close are you to your family?
- I only have Genis. I'd say we're quite close.

61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
- I raised my brother since he was an infant. Starting a family of my own has not been first and foremost on my mind.

62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
- Asking for help is not something I do easily... but all things considered, it would most likely be Albert.

63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
- I don't expect anyone to protect me. However when situations have come up that I have been ... unable to do so, myself, then yes, there have been a few that I've had no choice but to trust with my life in certain situations. I am grateful to them for their aid.

64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
- ... Genis. (And possibly a lot of other people. Not that she sees that.)

65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
- I can't exactly attach that to a singular person. There are people who are irritating, and people I'd rather not deal with if I had to, but it's not enough to put a singular name to.

66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
- It is my preference to avoid conflict. However, sometimes discussions about conflicting opinions are unavoidable. If my opinion will end up meaning something, it is worth the discussion.

67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
- I suppose that depends on the "social situation". In times of chaos, I have a tendency to take on a "damage control" type of role, by necessity, as few others would. Whether or not people actually look to me as such is another matter entirely.

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
- Again, it entirely depends on the interaction. If it's for business reasons, or teaching, I'm used to taking the floor. If it's for something as frivolous as a party, it's a different matter, and I'd rather not have too much to do with it.

69. Do you care what others think of you?
- It's not something that's especially a concern. (She cares. She wants to be taken seriously.)

Part 6: Likes And Dislikes

70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
- Reading, cooking.

71. What is your most treasured possession?
- ... The unicorn horn, I suppose.

72. What is your favorite color?
- White.

73. What is your favorite food?
- To cook with? There are a few ingredients that I use more often than not... I suppose I have a preference for adding in lemons, for a fresh citrusy flavor! (She doesn't really have much of a food preference. Light meals mostly.)

74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
- History books are my preference, and it's anything broad concerning that topic.

75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
- ... I don't have time for that. Reading. Trying out a new recipe.

76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
- I don't do any of those activities.

77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
- Working, I suppose. Unless I'm talking with someone.

78. What makes you laugh?
- ... I'm not certain. I suppose it depends on the tone of conversation. (She hasn't smiled very much in the last year, so it's not something she especially notices.)

79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
- Blatant ignorance. Complete chaos.

80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
- Work, obviously. ... What? I don't have time for silly games.

81. How do you deal with stress?
- I just keep going. I can't let that stop me. (She overworks, desperate to find a way to control the problem that's adding to her stress. She doesn't sleep, and forgets her meals.)

82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
- I prefer to look over a situation and think things through properly. However, I have the capability to react on the spot in most situations, which likely surprises people.

83. What are your pet peeves?
- Chaos. People deliberately engaging in foolish actions. Not being able to focus on important tasks.

Part 7: Self Images And Etc.

84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
- On normal days, after I wake up and prepare myself for a new day, Albert makes breakfast in the morning, unless Genis is up first. After which, depending on what day it is, I head out to either the school, or just around the village to make my observations. At some point I end up going back to my notes and monitoring the journals, and other work activities that I won't mention here. Probably have a few conversations in between then, before dinner. Depending on the time I get back, we'll make the time for a ride on Astrid. Genis takes care of the dinner, so it's usually ready when we're done. Then I work for a little while more until it's time for bed. Granted this routine took quite some time to establish, and were largely put in place due to some of my ... habits. Whenever it gets disrupted, things don't go very well.

85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
- Knowledge.

86. What is your greatest weakness?
- ... (Genis. Not considering her own safety.)

87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
- ... the inability to accept that I've pushed myself too hard, in some situations.

88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
- Introverted.

89. Are you generally organized or messy?
- ... I have my systems.

90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
Good
- Taking care of others.
- Organizing.
- Rationalizing.

Bad
- -- I'm not bad at cooking! I'd ... just like to get better.
- ... Asking for help.
- ... Willingly taking a break.

91. Do you like yourself?
- I've been able to accept the fact that I was born a half-elf.

92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)
- I had gone too far along the path to turn away from the goals we were pursuing.

93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
- In Aselia, I wanted to travel the world with my brother to pave the way towards the acceptance of half-elves.

94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Hopefully making strides towards those goals. After we find a way to escape Luceti and put an end to these schemes of the Malnosso. As for how long that will take... at our rate, I can only hope it is with our mentality intact.

95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
- ... of natural causes.

96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
- Make sure that any information I have is given to a reliable source.
- Make sure my brother is in good hands.
- Help that one last person.

97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
- That people would carry on in whatever paths that I set, to further their own goals.

98. What three words best describe your personality?
- Dedicated. Intelligent. Logical.

99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
- ... Stubborn. Workaholic. Secretive.

[[100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character?

Woman, now that you finally have your little brother back, you can stop obsessing and just let people help you already. In particular Albert, since you're likely to lose his support if you continue to be fail. You're not going to get anywhere with your work if you allow yourself to continually fall into these bad habit traps, either. And people will easily lose whatever respect they have for you. Just let them help you. ]]
