It's an effect of the Jenova cells. While the disease was cured, the cells themselves remain... and since Jenova herself was brought to Luceti, everyone who had her cells is experiencing the same. Some worse than others.

She might not be aware of all who are affected, so as long as you keep a low profile, she might not think to bother with you. But it's a concern, nonetheless.
