"You're a stone cold fox, Raine. Of course there's a someone."
Being associated with Buffy is an interesting experience for Raine - mostly because of the vast differences in their experiences and how they relate to one another. Despite all her experiences and horror stories, Buffy exudes this bright, youthful aura and at least a (quasi)positive outlook. Qualities that are endearing to Raine in her students.
Of course, Buffy is not her student, and tends to interact with Raine on a different level. Many of the 'youthful' ideas Buffy mentions to her -- such as shopping, or casually going to the bar, or even discussing men -- are fairly alien to her on some levels, since Raine never had a casual friend growing up -- and of course, grew up much too fast, without anything passing for a normal childhood and skipping right past those teenager years -- and these topics never actually came up with her companions, or were avoided. Being around Buffy makes her feel old, sometimes, even if they're around the same age.
... In any case, this is why Raine tends to get more flustered and embarrassed during those conversations, especially since these aren't really topics she tends to think of. Her only true pursuits have been intellectual, after all, and she's as clumsy about the subjects as any intellectual would be. Lately she's been trying to be more open with Buffy on a more confidante level, but given some circumstances, it's possible that it may dial back a few notches until they can restore comfort levels around one another on a mental level.
