"Just bear in mind that even healers can become patients, if they try to bear too large a burden."

Gelda's been in Luceti for a little less than Raine has, and there was some common ground there already, notably when it came to the school building. They became acquaintances over a desire to teach, and eventually making that a reality in Luceti. They were also similar in other ways, both of them being healers. Raine respects Gelda as a fellow teacher and healer.

They're associates first, since most of their interactions have to do with the school. And Raine knows that Gelda is someone to be counted on. But there is some gap, there--Gelda seems older, and often hides any issues she might have better than Raine hides her own. So well that Raine doesn't always feel comfortable being the one to share her own problems with her. So they're both holding back, even with a quiet mutual trust in perhaps knowing that if a confidant was needed, they were good for that. Their interactions mostly have to do with the school, so it becomes difficult to let down that associate wall.

In this way they're able to keep everything running. A balance even, for the school. Raine takes a lot of it on herself, but Gelda is the one who is usually there. It causes guilt in Raine, when she originally had thought she'd be able to do it alone. Of course, Luceti has grown quite a bit.

Such as in that first year, when Raine was really struggling. Gelda had been able to see when she was pushing herself, and had even been a listening ear, as well as stern, when she would help with the injuries. When Gelda was in need of marital advise, Raine was surprised that she would come to her, but who else was there for her to go to on that level? A quiet mutual trust.
