dear Yuletide author!

Dear Yuletide Author,

\o/

Wee decapitated person is so happy you are writing for me that HANDS ARE IN THE AIR IN GLEEE. As I write this, sign-ups haven't even opened, yet I already know that you are out there, my Wondermous Yuletide Author of Wonder.

... and now sign-ups are open, I am all signed-up. I already pimped RPF - Cry Cry Cry on the Yuletide comm official pimping post, and people signed up to write it! Maybe you are one of them! If so, thank you!

If you're writing for one of my other fandoms, yay! Thank you! I would be SO HAPPY to receive any of these requests that I will FALL OVER on Christmas morning. I will be NOT ABLE TO FUNCTION I will be so thrilled.

First, hi. My name is Ari. I'm a lesbian. I'm a Christian. I've been in fandom since 2003. This is my third Yuletide.

I like het, girlslash, boyslash, poly, incest, and gen. I like BDSM and all kinds of kink, genderfuck, crack, wingfic, magical realism, worldbuilding, thinky fic, and theology.

I don't like homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, classism, anti-semitism or ageism. I really hope that won't be a problem with anything you write but just, yanno, throwing it out there.

Now, on to the specific requests.

1. Bible - New Testament - Jesus/Mary Magdalene.

So, like I said above, I'm a Christian. I was a religion major in college and did a stint as a grad student in theology. I hope this won't terrify you away from writing this for me, since it's the most popular of the four fandoms I requested. I promise, I'm not that hard to please.

I like this fandom because... well, I love the New Testament, especially the Gospels, because Gospel is Good News -- the overwhelming story of God's love for humanity, so deep and self-sacrificing that God took the form of a human and lived and died for us, and rose again forever defeating death. The fact of Jesus' ministry, proclaiming release to the captives and turning the world and its hierarchies upside down, eating with sinners and tax collectors. I love it as a fandom because there's so much more truth to tell, because there are ways to shake up the story, to make it real, to make it disconcerting, to make it scary, to make it sweetly intimate. I love this as a fandom because there's SO MUCH fanon, if you know what I mean, so many angles of entry.

I would love a Jesus/Mary Magdalene story, romantic and/or sexual if at all possible.

If you really, really can't write het (or really, really can't write Jesus in a romantic or sexual relationship), then I would love a gen story about their relationship, which is obviously close, about Magdalene and her demons, about how she supports Jesus monetarily, and about how she becomes the first apostle. There's lots to think about in their story without adding the romantic/sexual component. But I do 'ship them so hard.

It can be sweet or sad, sexy or demure, canon-based or weird AU, or anything in between.

Seriously. Quiet moment cuddling together? CHECK. Magdalene mourning for Jesus after the crucifixion? CHECK. Making out like crazy? CHECK. Chaste pecks on the cheek? CHECK. Intricately researched 1st century Palestine fic? CHECK. Mary and Jesus are pirates who fight crime (IN SPACE)?... CHECK. Anything you could do with this pairing would be awesome.

Themes I like are discipleship, vocation, and sacred sexuality.

Just because those are my favorites, though, doesn't mean you shouldn't write about other things that interest you in the Jesus/Magdalene story. I am fascinated by the idea of Call, though, especially when people struggle with it.

Since Jesus' death is an incredibly important part of canon, it's fine if you'd like to write a story about that.

There aren't very many themes that I'm squicked by. I mean, torture and death are canon.

I'd like a serious story, though, not a parody.

Yeah. Except that. Partner in crime helped me to express what I mean by this. "Have fun with it; don't make fun of it." I mean, Jesus and Mary Magdalene fight crime in space? YES. Jesus and Mary Magdalene have teacher/student kink sex in the Garden after the resurrection? YES. Sexually explicit genderbent bdsm drunkfic while angsting about vocation? OMGYESPLZ.

I want my Jesus human -- not the inhuman perfect object of adoration -- human Jesus is flawed and sexual, gets angry and sad -- but he's not inhuman in the other direction either. He's not cruel, he's not a rapist, he's not a televangelist, he's not glib.

If you've seen Dogma: I love the film. I love it because it's funny and because it's deeply reverent. Jesus doesn't show up, but that Jesus? I'd love. Buddy Christ? Not so much.

Final note: Mary Magdalene is not canonically a prostitute. If you really want to write prostitute!Mary (or reformed!prostitute!Mary), that's okay, but I would like an acknowledgment that there's nothing in the canonical gospels to indicate that.

Oh, and if you want to use extracanonical gospels with like, oh, references to kissing on [...] and making the other disciples jealous? That would be cool too.

2. Mina de Malfois - Mina de Malfois/Judith Silverman aka Archivist12.

O.T.motherfrellingP.

I recently posted about what I love about the pairing and the fandom, which may well help you out: post is here.

Beyond that?

Well, here's what I said in my sign-up:

I would love a Mina/Arc story, romantic and/or sexual if at all possible. I'd love something that explored the meatspace/cyberculture dichotomy, and the different ways that Mina and Arc interact and desire in different spaces (on IM, in game, in the library), or something about Mina discovering her sexuality, something about aca-fen, or something about the May/Decemberness of it all. I don't mind if other canon pairings are mentioned, but I'd like the focus to be on Mina/Arc. Angst is fine, but please no death.

I can't really think of anything to add to that. I love pretty much all the aspects of the Mina/Arc pairing; I love Mina, and I love Arc. I know other pairings are canon, but this one is my favorite. Ideas? Well, there's spanking-in-the-library kink. There's drunken confessions. There's confessions online that don't affect their meatspace interaction right away. There are AUs to be had. There's running away in-game and the repercussions in meatspace. There's the fact that Arc is secretly pulling all the strings in a delightfully Dommey way. There's so much meta and subtext and AWESOME. I can't imagine that anything you wrote would be disappointing.

3. RPF - Cry Cry Cry - Dar Williams/Lucy Kaplansky/Richard Shindell

I may have promised some, um, help in acquiring the goods. If I haven't added links by the time assignments go out, I appreciate your patience! I really would like to help you get into the amazing amazingness of these three songwriters.

ETA: And I finally uploaded some music for you to listen to before you go acquire it in totally legal ways. *G* /ETA

In the meantime, or if you already have (totally legal, probably!) access to their songs, then you're all set.

This is what they look like in performance. Do you know how it's possible that three smart, savvy genius lyricists can also all be SO FRELLING HOT? Yeah, me neither.

Lucy has a website that's full of pretty pictures. Dar's website is here, and I've just discovered some gorgeous pictures of the trio in Media --> Photos --> Cry Cry Cry. Richard's site is here.

I know basically nothing about any of them beyond their songwriting, so feel free to stop your research with noting that they are three impossibly pretty people who write gorgeous lyrics.

If you'd like to do more research, that would be awesome! I would probably prefer a handwavy approach to real life significant others, though.

I would love a Lucy/Dar/Richard story, romantic and/or sexual or gen.

Because they do have real life significant others, and because this is already such a small fandom that I'm so grateful that you're even WRITING for me, I want to make it really clear that gen would be JUST AS AWESOME as shippy fic. Hanging out and being songwriters and musicians and artists? That would be LOVELY.

I'd love something that explored songwriting, since all three artists are such amazing writers, or something about touring, the folk scene, staying up late working on the album, and connecting through their songs.

Or anything else that you love about them!

If you do opt for the romantic option, I'd like a genuine threesome, rather than having any characters sidelined. Please no deathfic.

I think that's pretty self-explanatory. I'd much rather have genfic than, say, Lucy/Dar fic with Richard just kind of kicking back. I love all three of them so much it makes my brain explode with awesome.

4. RPF - Scholastic Authors - Ann M Martin/Paula Danziger.

Okay. So technically sign-ups closed 6 minutes ago, and almost 1600 people failed to offer this fandom. That doesn't mean no one will write it! Maybe you're the other person who requested it, and are also brave enough to write it. Maybe you're my assigned author and for some reason none of my other requests pinged. Maybe my request just zoomed by on the pinch-hit list and you went !!!! at the thought of kidlit RPF. Maybe you're insane. Maybe you're on my flist and want to write me a Yuletide treat. HOWEVER you come to be considering this request, I'm superglad that you're even thinking of coming with me to the crazy place.

Is Ann M. Martin gay or what? is the official (and really classy, duh) tag on my LJ for obsessing over Ann's sexuality. For the record, while it would make me insanely pleased if she were to come out, I respect that she has every right to keep her private life private.

I know almost nothing about Paula Danziger except that she wrote some really awesome books, including some cowritten with Ann.

I've written Ann M. Martin RPF. It was a crossover with Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. There is seriously nothing that I wouldn't love in this fandom. Just for the record, full prompt:

I'd love an Ann/Paula story, romantic and/or sexual if at all possible. I'd love something about co-writing, or just working on writing together -- sharing ideas, talking about frustrations. I'd also love something about them doing other things together -- eating, shopping, or making love. I'd love an exploration of sexuality, fame, the closet, and outness. I'd like something sweet, gentle, maybe a little wistful. If you would prefer to write gen, that's fine, but please don't make either character straight.

If you write fic where they aren't romantically/sexually interested in each other, that's fine -- I get that other people's boundaries lie in different places than mine -- but please don't write about either of them having crushes on men, dating men, or sleeping with men (unless they're explicitly bi and also have crushes on, date, or sleep with women). I hope that makes sense.

I'd prefer a story that doesn't deal with Paula's death; it would make me too sad.

Clarity on that last point: AU where Paula doesn't die, fine, set anytime before Paula's death, also fine, bittersweet foreshadowing, fine, but please, nothing that actually deals with her death or Ann's grief. I would cry, seriously.

In conclusion, THANK YOU! I hope you are excited and not daunted by at least one of my requests, and I hope you have or develop a really awesome plotbunny that you enjoy writing as much as I know I will enjoy reading.

If you have any questions about my tastes or preferences, you could ask a question through the mods, or you could ask hermionesviolin, partner in crime, who's sure to know.

Happy Yuletide! Thank you! <3<3<3
