yeah, so, here goes

I tried to do this on Wednesday night but my thoughts were a bit confuddled, so here goes... not really trying to be exceptionally coherent or anything, so just go with it.

So I met Sarah and Elizabeth and they're really nice people. Yay. And somehow I feel really compelled to want to say something profound about that experience because it feels like it should be an important thing that happened to me, since long-distance and non-meatspace (friend)ships have been important to me for a very long time, and I think this was actually one of the best experiences I've had of moving some of those friendships into meatspace, at least for a little while.

I think it helped that Elizabeth is a much more talkative person than I am and is capable of pointing things out and saying, hey, look at this. I said on Wednesday night that her conversation style was pretty much like her blog: "hey, look at that neat thing!" But that worked.

I really wish I'd gotten to spend more time with Sarah, but I really don't see how that could have actually happened. Sarah's adorable and lovely, but as I suspected, our meatspace interaction was kind of difficult because we really do have so many of the same hang-ups. So Elizabeth mediated that to some extent, but I don't think we ever really got Sarah involved in the conversation. Which made me kind of sad, because Sarah seemed like she'd have a lot to contribute, just... yeah. And this? So not a value judgment, because I just really lucked out this week and pushed myself really hard to make things work and managed to click on some level with Elizabeth.

Last night with Elizabeth we kind of started awkwardly, but then I took a nap and felt a lot better and more talkative, and joined her in the lounge and we talked for a long time. As usual, Buffy really helped, and we covered the familiar territory and had interesting nifty discussions about the Jossverse because, well, interesting! We also touched on religion and politics and heck, even sports. But it was mostly religion and Buffy, since, well, that's really why we're friends in the first place.

I think having that common ground really, really helped break the ice, because it's an infinitely fascinating thing to talk about. Yay Jossverse!

And Jan was awesome about the whole thing. So grateful to Jan for making everything run smoothly this week.

And I think that's pretty much it. What do you guys think?

meatspace meet-ups, extroverting, cyberculture, the ari and elizabeth show, introversion
