I'm so glad I'm not in junior high school anymore. I'm reading HP book 4, and all that fuss over who to go to the dance with... all those hormones and no one knowing what sex is... It all must be very distressing. No wonder most people remember middle school with a sort of shocked horror. Of course, I spent most of my time at middle school

Okay, so maybe you can explain to me... why Harry and Draco? I'm a sad, sad slasher, but I honestly don't see any subtext there...

I've got half an eye on Minerva/Hermione, just because that's exactly my thing, but I think it's most likely a UST thing, probably mostly on Hermione's part. Sort of like, oh, most of my middle school experience.

I sort of keep expecting Snape/Harry non-con to come up, but only because I've been reading too much rapefic lately... I'd read it, but I'm not really attached to it.

Sirius/Lupin/James. Lavender/Pavarti. Minerva/Dumbledore.

If I had to choose a consensual slash ship, I'd go for Harry/Ron, but I don't really see it. For chanslash, Sirius/Harry, probably...

I'm an avid Tom Riddle shipper. Tomfic is absolutely gorgeous.. And Snape/Harry is a common one, Lavender/Parvati is sort of a given, except that the characters in and of themselves are on the aggravating side in terms of writing a canon fic, Sirius/Lupus/James is also common.. Minerva/Dumbledore isn't as common, as well as Minerva/Hermione, for the simple reason that most people aren't fans of writing of elderly people in terms of slash. It would be something like writing Gandalf/Frodo.. Potential, of course, and so much subtext, but the age difference as well as the wisdom and nobility of a Gandalf or a Dumbledore makes the thought of them hooking up in any such way almost irreverent to people

Butbutbut... Gandalf/Frodo. Gandalf/Bilbo. They're canon! "If you don't like my burgler, please don't damage him"! How is that not slashy?

But then, I have a weakness for old and wise. Old and wise makes me go weak in the knees.

I love the old and wise, but most don't. Like I said, it's seen as irreverent, and also, most people write slashfic of those characters that they deem the most gorgeous and the like (i.e., the abundance of Legolasfics), and the old and wise usually don't quite make it into that category.

Realize that the second after I said I have yet to see a Neville fic, I started thinking Tom/Neville or Draco/Neville.. the plot bunnies are churning, if bunnies can churn. These bunnies churn.

But it's weird... the way you talk about HP ship is so different from the way most show people talk about ship. Show fen tend towards the OTP school of thought... While there's a lot of joking about other pairings, only a handful actually ever get written about (at least in the 'Gate fandom), whereas from what I've seen of HP, people write any pairing they can dream up... not that there aren't OTPers, but at least from my friends list, there's a lot more diversity.

I bet book fen are, as a group, more literate than show fen... *shrugs*

I guess slashers do write about prettyboys, which always sort of annoys me, even though I'm all in favor of prettyboys. But there are so many good pairings that don't include prettyboys. Like Gimli/Legolas, which should be way, way more popular than Aragorn/Legolas, but just because Gimli isn't as pretty... it's not fair! *pouts*
