So, sekrit birthday present for my pastor involves teaching myself like five new skills, of which asking for help is the hardest. I need Psalm 42 and 43 and Ephesians 4 read in many different voices. I have many talents, but only one voice, so I need your help. If you have the technology to record yourself reading and the time to do so and no strong objection to helping me make a present for my pastor, I would deeply appreciate it if you would in the next couple of days:

1. Record yourself reading Psalm 42-43, Ephesians 4, or parts thereof. Any translation is fine. I've provided a standard text, under the cut, which is NRSV altered - I've removed a bunch of gender and included only the verses that are most relevant to my project - which is a video about hope.

1a. The short form request for people without time or patience is to record yourself saying the phrases, "why are you cast down, o my soul?" "hope in God," and/or "one hope."

2. Upload an audio file. Any format is fine. Share it with me in the usual way. I will screen comments in a sec [eta: done], and you can email me at wisdomeagle[at]gmail[dot] com.

3. Please include the name by which you'd like to be credited in acknowledgments. Other than my pastor and some vid betas, I'm not decided on distribution. It seems unfair to ask for help and then not share the finished product, but this is... pretty personal. I may share it privately with contributors. If you've got a different name you'd like used in that context, let me know.

Please, ask questions if you have them, and feel free to link - this post is unlocked. Thank you for your help, flist/dwircle. I love you.

[readings under the cut]

Ephesians 4

I beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, Creator of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ's gift. The gifts Christ gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Child of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people's trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into the one who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knitted together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body's growth in building itself up in love.

Surely you have heard about Christ and were taught in Christ, as truth is in Jesus. You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbours, for we are members of one another. Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil. Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labour and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy. Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, who marked you with a seal for the day of redemption. Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

Psalm 42

As a deer longs for flowing streams,

so my soul longs for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,

for the living God.
When shall I come and behold

the face of God?
My tears have been my food

day and night,
while people say to me continually,

"Where is your God?"

I say to God, my rock,

"Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I walk about mournfully

because the enemy oppresses me?"

As with a deadly wound in my body,

my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me continually,

"Where is your God?"
Why are you cast down, O my soul,

and why are you disquieted within me?

Hope in God; for I shall again praise

my help and my God.

Psalm 43

You are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you cast me off? Why must I walk about mournfully because of the oppression of the enemy?

O send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.

Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise my help and my God.

Why are you cast down,
O my soul?

Hope in God

One hope.
