I'm with you on the XKCD - maybe a slightly lower percentage because I'm an accountant, not a programmer! Sometimes I have an awful time trying to read fast enough to even see the little side comments that pop up and have to switch screens a few times to see it all...

My little guy's a bit younger than Baz, so we haven't tried any Far Side, but I do find there's often so much cultural background missing when I try to share things I think I remember liking (for example, the Encyclopedia Brown books - there's something different to explain every 2 lines!)

I do remember a Far Side cartoon, it was something like the Holsteins visit the Grand Canyon and it was the family of 4 cows posed like a vacation picture. It just looked like the parents and brother & sister cow, not that clever... Till I read something by Larsen, maybe saying that was one of his most misunderstood panels - the "bow" on the top of the "sister" cow's head was the other cow's hoof doing the universal "fingers over the unsuspecting sublings head in every picture that was ever taken" move. Much funnier that way, but I always have to look twice when I see that one!
