It's time for some all around upgrading of my personal tech. This weekend my cute little Samsung Moment is going from Cupcake to Eclair. Although my backup utility allows me to back up apps, they evidently don't link back to the storefront for updates. So instead I wrote down all the apps I want to re-install, mostly not including the ones that came with the phone. Annotated if I felt like it.
aContacts - much better than the built in contact page.
Advanced Task Manager - I think this is the one that gives me a little red kill button.
Alarm Clock
Aldiko Premium - Very nice adjustable book reader, full integration with Smashwords and other free book sources.
Android Lightsaber - a hit with the kids.
Astrid Tasks - excellent nag
Barcode Scanner - quite fast.
Brightness Level - battery-saver. I keep my screen at 25% unless I'm in broad daylight
Bubble - Ok, I haven't actually leveled anything with it, but I might.
Calculator
Carr Matey - totally cute and fun pirate-themed car locator for parking lots.
Compare Everywhere
Compass
Countdown Widget
Delicious - just lets me access things I have already marked in delicious, but I can also use Dolphin to mark things for Delicious
Dolphin - Very full-featured, gesture control
Drop Flowers - Game for the Pook
File Manager
File Viewer - For when you want to see the contents of your SD card
Flickr by Pixelpipe - Problem free app to send phone pictures to flickr account
Frozen Bubble - because the spouse seems to enjoy it.
Gmail - duh
Google maps - also duh
Google Sky map - has been used to resolve an argument about which planet was visible from the car.
Handcent - Super messaging app, keeps my conversation threads clear and clean.
Hangman Classic - Mostly for Baz
Key Ring - Very nifty - scans all your barcode loyalty cards (and library card) and presents them to the scanner.
Kittens and Puppies - Mostly for Kay
Knitting Stash - Adorable geek taking feedback from the Ravelry android group and building a knitting app that's actually going to be useful.
Labyrinth Light - Mostly for LT
Magic Marker - surprisingly fun for everyone
My Tracks - So you know how far you went
My Backup Pro - To keep my data safe and happy
NPR News - Because I like to read the headlines. Hard to kill, though, and seems related to a signal loss problem. We'll see if it behaves better in Eclair
Odd one out - Addictive little game
One Bus Away - Shows you when the bus is getting to your stop. KC Metro. MSP and SFO have similar apps, though
Our Groceries - The killer app for my mom. Shared grocery lists across phones, with updating.
Pass Phrase - Because I love catchphrase
PDANet - Tethering
PicSay
Pong - The classics are honored here
Scan2PDF Mobile - For all those forms and signs you wish you could capture.
Screen Suite - Better than the built-in locking while you make a call.
SnapPhotoPro - Excellent camera utility, delivers far better pics than the built-in camera. Nifty features
SnapTell
Spark - Zorch
Speed Dial - The other half of my one-touch dialing solution
Stopwatch
Switch toggle - Toggle ringer, wireless, other things that people willing to spend money do with Locale
Task Manager 1.11.9 - Really great task manager, has a built-in battery meter
Tricorder - Why yes, we are giant nerds
Twidroid - Never gives me trouble, has a nice built-in pic viewer
Wavedroid
WSDOT - Our department of transportation is pretty savvy. Includes drivetimes, pass info, border crossing info, traffic alerts
Zedge
It's also time to upgrade my laptop to Windows 7, so I am trying Mozy for my data backup.
.... a person should practice data hygeine before doing so. I really didn't need to back up 30 Blowfish podcasts, as amusing as they are.
Anyway, I should have started sooner, because it's going to take forever, but $5 a month for automated backups is not such a bad deal. if it's really reallly important data, like your novel, or your pictures of your kids, you should have a couple different styles of backup, but I think that this seems ok for a consumer-style backup.
That's what I'm doing tonight, besides sewing and maybe making some apple crisp.
