Summary of a jam-packed weekend

Friday night I zipped home from work and collected the car and went dancing. Where I had fun, but was eaten by the mosquito-y horde. I have a bite in my ARMPIT. Also on my stomach. In addition to the usual places.

Saturday morning A took me out to the spa. MMMM. We spent four hours artificially altering our body temperature. Three temperatures of hot tub, a cool tub, four rooms of escalating warmth, a sauna, and nothing but women, as far as the eye can see. It was very relaxing, and I am resolved to try the exfoliation next time. Also, she and I plotted on a mutual birthday party. WHEE.

I came come, and had a nice snuggly nap with silmarian, and then he went off to a party and I made french toast with the kids (Baz's egg-breaking skills are coming along, but not there yet). Then I got a sad phone call from sil. The van had died the death of transmission. Various alarums and excursions, as you can imagine. My parents volunteered to come up and hang with the kids on Sunday while sil and I figured out our options.

This morning, I got the kids out the door for church. I think I might have dressed them differently if I'd remembered it was outdoor service and picnic day. We stayed for picnic. Someone at church makes these amazing caramel-nut brownies that I adore. We got home at almost exactly the same time my parents arrived. We handed over the kids, along with the completed summer reading packets, and went up to Seattle to see how the van was feeling. Not so hot, it turns out.

Sil limped it home, and I drove the other car home, stopping for a brief Costco frenzy. Levi's jeans now have the brilliant adjustable-waistband feature! I got a pair for each kid, and a raincoat for Kay. Also, eggs, milk, butter, and brownie mix. Cat litter. Three kinds of sugar.

I got back to Kent just in time to collect Kay from outside the library. Grandmama and Baz elected to walk, since Baz had his bike. The kids got nifty art sets from the library for finishing their summer reading program. I approve. Grandmama was impressed with the library.

sil and I collaborated on dinner: Ham, potatoes, beet salad, candied carrots. We fed my parents and then they were off.

Family movie night tonight consisted of the start of The Rocketeer. Now sil is off to see Inglorious Basterds. And I should do dishes.

Although the car qualified for cash for clunkers, as my wise mommy said to me "It's not a deal if you weren't going to buy it in the first place." It could be driven on the lot, but it doesn't have anything above 2nd gear or so. We will figure out how to dispose of it sometime this week. So for the foreseeable future, we will be a one-car family. But that's ok, the bus service here doesn't suck.
